It was 6 months ago and the beginning of a very long trip for me and I felt at home there, nice breakfast and staff, lot of common space, excellent spot to spend your days in Merida. Perfect location of course

A beautiful hostel, clean, friendly staff and an amazing free breakfast in the morning. The price is slightly more than we have been paying at other hostels but the breakfast spread in the morning makes up for it. Great wi-fi signal and hot water! I would definitely reccomend it!

I can only endorse what others have said. This is a friendly, warm hearted place to stay. The breakfast is worth the room hire alone. The staff are friendly, always smile. The rooms are clean, the water is hot, what more could a traveller want!

Can I also recommend their other hotel, in Progresso??? Slightly out of town, will take a bit of finding, unless the staff meet you, or in our case, they took us! But clean quiet, and all of the above.

After making a reservation for 3 nights (with a deposit) I hoped to arrive in Merida during the holiday season, with a place to stay. Unfortunately, the greedy owner/staff rented that room out before we arrived, and tried to collect payment from both parties. The girl at the front desk was rude, and basically said too bad. She said that we arrived too late (9pm), even though there was NO previous mention of having to arrive by a certain time, as long as you arrive on the day of the reservation. Then some guy came out of nowhere, blamed the whole situation on his boss, then offered to take us to another "similar" place. We agreed, and he walked with us to a complete dump that cost more. The reason we were going to stay at Zocalo is because it allegedly isn't a dump. I dont need some fancy hotel, but the place he brought us too was filthy I did my research and planned ahead. However, in the end we found a much nicer place run by kind people, and did not give our money to the scammers at Zocalo.
