Just got home from my fifth visit to Hotel Cozumel. Here's my honest opinion.
I give it a solid 3 stars (rated 4 I think), and would describe it as a dive hotel so if you want the five star hotel, spend the money and go for it! LOL.
Hotel Coz is really rigged up for diving, with rinse tanks, showers, tons of hanging racks and lockers for your gear on the docks. Note, these all belong to the hotel, I've seen reviewers praising the on-site dive operator for these- it's the hotel! There's also a couple hanging bars on your balcony to dry your wetsuit at night. If you dive with the on-site dive operator, you get a free welcome tank the day of arrival (otherwise it's $5, I think, the dock is a decent, get wet, gear check easy dive after a hectic travel day). We dove with another dive operator that picked us up at the dock by boat every morning, as we had specific dive sites we wanted to visit.
I would describe this as a dive hotel, if you not a diver and are just looking to lounge, sun and eat gourmet food, you may/may not be disappointed.
That said, I think this is a good all-inclusive hotel and a great price. The food is pretty good and you can always find something to eat. All meals were buffet, in March they had specialty nights tho. Breakfast they cook eggs to order, lunch they will usually make you a cheeseburger if nothing else grabs your eye. Dinner can be hit or miss. If you shop around and get a good deal on your trip, you can always grab dinner a couple nights in town, walk in, taxi back ($6).
There's a big pool as well as an expanded beach section. Bring a bunch of singles and tip the staff. We always get good service, if you want a strong drink, ask for a topper on your drink (just remember, you're diving in the morning!). With the all-inclusive, you literally don't have to spend a dime once you are there, except tips/phone). The wi/fi works great in the lobby, so-so in the rooms, they give you a code for the room wifi. We used an internet phone app to call NJ, worked fine, download the app at home before you get there. The rooms were clean, the pillows reminded me of sacks of potatoes tho-hard. The hotel and pool are across the street from the water (there's a tunnel), beach, dock and one restaurant on the water side.
The diving was awesome, but that's another review.
