Since I like to travel and do not have an unlimited travel budget I have come to count on the reviews posted here on trip advisor. My husband and I are not fans of large all inclusive hotels, so after reading reviews listed for Cancun we decided on the Costa Blanca(Suites Costa Blanca). We made our reservation through their web site. The hotel is located in a small unique plaza called:Centro Comercial Mansion Costa Blanca. The entrance to the hotel is one flight up(no elevator) but the hotel s security person took care of our bags. We selected room 16 which is a nice sized junior suite. The room was large containing 2 queen sized beds,a sitting area and a dining area that had a glass table with 4 chairs. The daily room rate was $1,350-pesos =$100-American Dollars. We found the hotel to be very quiet. The hotel staff always seemed to be cleaning. The inside hallways had nice plants. The 2 young ladies at the reception desk:Wendy and Eloisa where very nice to chat with and helped us with our questions. They gave us a list of restaurants where mostly locals eat that they said were good values. Most places suggested were located downtown, which was a 20-25 minute bus ride from kilometer 8.5 where the hotel was located. during our one week stay the hotel bus fare was increased to $7.5-pesos but at $56 cents a very good bargin. The bus drivers seem to know a little english so if you say Walmart or the bus terminal they will let you know where to get off. The R-1 and R-2 buses run 24 hours. The drivers will take dollar bills but no american coins. In general we found it best to exchange dollars for pesos at the banks. They give the highest rates and charge no commision. Close to the Costa Blanca was a Banomex Bank(Plaza Terramar) that was open monday to friday from 9-am until 4-pm. In the next plaza called:Plaza Caracol we found a HSBC bank on the 2nd floor. I think it is open 7 days a week. While we were in Cancun the exchange rate was 13.5 pesos to the dollar. We ate 90% of our meals downtown. Many places recommended by the hotel were places we would also recommend. I will try to give more info on these under the trip advisor listings for restaurants. If you like chinese food, try the Hong Kong on either saturday or sunday. We stuffed ourselves at the buffet which cost us under $10-dollars each. We also liked a japanese place called Yamamotos that has been there for years. We have a shrimp dish called:tendon that was excellent. Twice we had very good salads on Avenue Tulum at a small cafe called:Saladable. The very large salad was excellent. We suggested that the Costa Blanca get international cable. They only provide local tv stations.
