We traveled to Laguna Suites in early January 2012. This trip was the result of my wife purchasing a package over the phone for a good price. The package also includes accommodations in Orlanda at a later date. We aren't naive, and new this trip likely would involve a meeting/presentation with time share representatives at some point, who would employ their high pressure tactics to lock us into a payment we can't afford. I'll try to summarize the trip as best I can.
Airport Transportation was on time, friendly, and helpful.
Check-in went smoothly. Staff showed us the map and the locations of the other 3 resorts we had access to (Sunset Lagoon, Royal Sunset, and Ocean Spa). He explained the shuttle service to us, took our i.d. and credit card to get copies for incidentals etc. I found it interesting we couldn't get our key until we made our appointment for the presentation.
"Presentation" as per usual, the guy was friendly, explained we wouldn't be forced to buy anything and to keep an open mind. Ultimately, the whole presentation was within what I expected. I find it interesting all of the sales guys claim some sort of connection to where you live. Overall, the sales team gives you a real skeptical feeling. At one point, we were told we were done, but merely had to go through "quality control", which just ended up being a more experienced sales representative trying to use more high pressure. Ultimately, there was no way we were going to purchase at this point in our lives, or in this situation, but it took a long time for them to get that answer. The starting point is about $200,000, and then by the end they are down to a price of $4000. Seems like a great deal, but I wouldn't ever be comfortable giving these type of business tactics any of my money.
Transportation was part of our all inclusive and at check-in, we were told we had access to the free shuttle between resorts (there is only one restaurant at Laguna Suites, so we were counting on having free shuttle between resorts to access variety). We discovered on the first full day that the shuttle wasn't in service. We were told "maybe tomorrow", but not given a reasonable explanation. Nobody could confirm whether it was a maintenance issue or if the rumors they were shut down by the cab companies was true. In the end, the shady we were treated was the worse part (I understand things happen). At the end of the day, we didn't go between resorts as much as we would have liked and ended up spending about $60 on taxis. The City bus route isn't too far away (about 20 minute walk) and could have been used for less.
The food was delicious. We at most meals at Laguna Suites, and some at Sunset Lagoon. If you are considering whether to purchase all inclusive or not, be warned, there isn't much on the menu for less than $15 (including breakfast menu). The italian restaurant at Laguna Suites provide amazing service and delicious food. Service is also prompt. Laguna Suites being smaller, you certainly get your share of attention. The staff had no problem bringing our food over to the pool to snack on in the afternoons.
Rooms are spacious and kept clean. Only a few of the second floor rooms have a deck large enough to sit on and, others simply have a standing area. Most of the rooms are look out to the pool or golf course from the patio, and to parking lots and neighbouring properties out the back.
Overall, I say we got what we paid for. We met many others from Canada and the US. All at Laguna Suites it seems were there for the timeshare presentation. Once you get over the stress of dealing with the high pressure tactics, move on and enjoy your trip. Don't expect the shuttle to be working, so plan on taxis or city bus.
