“Thieving, lying front desk clerks!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Our television was broken frok jump, no big deal, we did not come to Cancun to watch tv. However, upon checking out, the front desk staff informed us that we needed to pay for a move we supposedly rented On Demand. Not only had we complained mid week that the tv was broken and they came to fix it but could not, now we were getting charged for a movie we had rented while we were on an excursion ALL DAY to the Mayan Ruins. They did not believe us and yet could not tell us which movie we had supposedly ordered nor what time. They would not allow us to board the shuttle without paying so they were basically holding us hostage over this movie. It is not the money I am upset about, it is the accusation that we are lying when we could prove we were not in the room all day AND our tv was broken to boot. I have never had a hotel that would not trust a customer on an issue like this and they have lost my business forever over this and I intend to call daily until they refund the money.

Room Tip: VERY VERY noisy until 4am each night in our room.....good luck getting a good nights' sleep.

“Dont forget the ear plugs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Check in was fast and relaxed, but not very informative, no information was given other than where the room was, we had a wander round for the first hour while we waited for our luggage to be delivered, which it wasn’t, so I had to go haul it myself, not a problem but as soon as I went to get it suddenly they wanted to fetch it for me, think they were more concerned about not getting a tip from an empty room than fetching the bags.

Room was fine, basic but ok, we had lagoon view which we preferred, lovely sunsets, planes coming and going and always something going on around the lagoon to watch on an evening. Beach view has the constant drum of noise coming from poolside music till 2 in the morning and the sun goes over head early so no late afternoon sun.

Food drinks and the staff (save for one of the reception staff) were the most redeeming feature of the hotel. Drinks were great and not watered down, food was very good for an AI, table service was great if you tipped or not, probably just a tad quicker if you tipped (definitely at the bars), if service is slow it’s usually just down to the lack of staff sometimes they were a little thin on the ground, they work like little Trojans and deserve all the tips they get.

Bad Points

Noise and there is lots of it, this was our biggest problem, we were on the 3rd floor near the lift, there is absolutely no chance of an afternoon siesta because of the noise from the beer garden bar and central part of the hotel, you need earplugs, we asked to be moved, they said no problem and offered us a room above the beer garden, we declined.

Noise continues into the very early hours of the morning those who come rolling in at 3-4am seem to think it’s great to shout and sing and slam doors the noise travels through the entire hotel, it is without doubt the noisiest hotel we have ever stayed at.

We had dealings with one member of the reception staff who’s customer relations skills were more than a bit blunt, when trying to explain the patio door did not lock the reply was simply “I don’t think so”
are you going to fix it “no”
are we just to leave it open then “no”
do you understand what I’m telling you “yes”
so its ok for it not to lock then “no”
so you are going to fix it “no”

At one point she asked if I could speak English, seeing that I am British I thought she would have taken that as read, I used what little Spanish I have, spoke to the older woman and it was sorted in one sentence.

If your going to be up till 3am like noise and don’t need sleep this is the perfect place for you, it really would not take much for this to be an excellent place a little bit of money spent on some new stuff and some one to keep a check on the noise, room doors that are solid and fit properly.

Would we go back, no probably not, but we don’t regret going either.

“Very nice place to get with the family. Comfortable. Great views. Reasonable food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

It was our second visit to this city, but the last one was 13 years ago, on our Honey Moon. Because the trip happened on the same month when we got married, we did not take our daughter with us to make this our second honey moon.

I got amazed how Cancun has changed. What a difference! The city has grown a lot, but in a planned way.

I loved this hotel. Inside it looks like you are in a cruise ship. Every elevator lobby offers a splendid view of the BLUE caribean sea. Its hard to find a so-so view here. I took some beautiful pictures inside and outside of the hotel.

The suites are SO COMFORTABLE! Mine had a king size bed, a big jacuzzi on the porch that made my imagination and desire to flourish. You know what I mean?

The hotel is located in the south area of the island, away from all the fuzzy the young people do up in the north part.

But it´s not very far away from that. You can count on buses or rent a car for just one day if you want. We did it so because we were in a group excursion with plenty of collective entretainments and small trips to the nearby attractions like Xcaret, Xel-ha, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, etc...

It is an all inclusive style hotel. So you can eat and drink as much as you want, but don´t forget to tip the waitress BEFORE to get a great service. US$ 5.00 to 10.00 is more than enough to make them try to please you. At the bar, give US$ 1.00 or 2.00 to get some nice drinks prepared.

There is 4 or 5 themed restaurants. Some served delicious food, others not so. I reccomend the Por

The hotel has a lot of attraction for small and young kids. Like the pirate boat on one of the many the pools, with water falls, and water rides.

For the grown ups, the hotel has a nice, but not cheap, Spa on the lower level, bellow the lobby. On the same floor there is a fully equipped gym room.

For us, brazilians, that pay some many taxes and high price in our beloved Brazil, the are some very nice shopping options on the continent like the Plaza mall and the Walmart ! :) But do the math because not everything does worth. I enjoyed the prices of watches, cosmetics, perfumes, clothes, sporting goods and some electronics.

Room Tip: Avoid appartments near the Magnus Food Plaza and lower floors. They have sea view but are the noisie...

“Avoid at all costs”

We had 19 people booked over 10 months in advance for the Golden P, upon arrival we were informed that they were overbooked and we would all have to be staying at the Great. We put up a large fuss and were allowed to stay... unfortunately it was downhill from there.

-We had several rooms with broken TV's, overflowing toilets, above the night club (dance music pounding through the floor until 2 AM).
-We reserved rooms with queen beds and every room had two doubles.
-Our trip organizer was promised a VIP room for bringing so much business to the hotel... they were placed on the first floor; lagoon side next to the dumpsters and maintenance closet! The staff promised every night that they'd have a new room available and denied them every morning.
-At check-out one couple was extorted for a movie they didn't even watch (their TV was broken and unplugged all week and the day that they supposedly watched it we were gone on a 9 hour excursion). The staff didn't seem to care and accused them of lying and wouldn't let them leave until they paid another $9.00.
-After three consecutive requests one morning they finally sent a maintenance person to our room to fix our toilet; he came while we were on the beach, fixed our toilet, and then left the door to our room open all afternoon.
-My wife and I opted for a "bike tour" activity; the bikes were in really bad shape, filthy dirty, and the "tour" was a 1/4 mile ride along the main street with nothing to see.
-The bedding was different for every room; some rooms only had sheets, some rooms only had blankets, some rooms had sheets and comforter, some rooms only had comforters...

The food was actually pretty good and the restaurant service was good to very good. Not a lot of selection and a lot of creative uses for the meats and left-overs. For the most part the restaurant staff were very helpful and, of course, service was even better with tipping.

The beach was nice and finding a chair in the morning was easy. The "hot tub" was really just another pool. Our group referred to it as the "mildly warm tub". The activity staff did a nice job of including everyone without being annoying. They played dance music from 10AM on all day and it was hard to find a quiet spot to sit near the ocean or pool.

We've been on several trips all over Mexico and the Caribbean and we felt that in so many areas this hotel was very close to being great; however, the poor job of the front desk and management was very frustrating and magnified the short comings.

Room Tip: Do not accept a room on the first or second floor as there is a tremendous amount of noise from the...

“Great location, Fun, Beautiful beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Went to vacation with friends, and we couldn't have had a better time. The location was perfect, the beach beautiful beyond words, and the size of this hotel just right. Our view was amazing! Postcard perfect. Great variety of food to choose from without any restrictions that I recall. I really like the fact that the grill by the pool was available late into the night with healthy options. The restaurants were good, especially the Sushi and French (which we did in our room and the service was exquisite). The staff was very friendly and attentive, the maid did a great job with just one reminder to keep the water stocked in the mini bar. The pool was a bit too warm in August, but I'm not sure that can be helped. MOre shade would be nice by the pool too. Personally, as an introvert, I think the party staff shouldn't be so pushy with activities during the day and night. Some of us were just there to relax...The A/C in our room barely worked, but we were often too tired to do anything about it. Despite the little complaints, We will be back!

Room Tip: Ocean front, defintely!
