My boyfriend and I chose a Cancun city hotel since we arrived late the first night and planned to visit Isla Mujeres the next day before journeying on in the Riviera Maya. The hotel was basic, but very clean and safe. Lots of great local restaurants and bars in walking distance, and easy to catch a taxi nearby. For $30 USD a night, this place far exceeded my expectations. I would definitely stay here again!

Ideal for us as a last night before flying out of Cancun. Very clean and well appointed rooms, friendly and helpful staff and very good value. Located in a quiet backstreet, but only a few minutes walk from restaurants, bars, shopping etc. Will definitely return.

It is walking distance from the bus station, especially when you walk through the big park. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable, TV, air conditioning and internet. For the 400p a night for two people, it was a good deal. Our room did have a slight musty smell, but we just opened the windows, turned the fan on and it was fine. It is on a very quiet little street for being right downtown. We would stay there again.

My husband and I have stayed several times (5 - 6) at Los Girasoles for up to a month at a time. This is a small family run hotel (15 - 18 rooms) which is very personable yet provides privacy to guests at the same time. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed, clean, secure and pretty. The location is set back one block from prime entertainment areas in downtown Cancun, allowing for quiet nights "at home". Some of the rooms have kitchenettes which staff will furnish with the basics upon request. If you have any special reqests, if within their means staff will provide it. Los Girasoles is an excellent alternative to staying in the Hotel Zone. It's central location is walking distance to all categories of restaurants, shops, a large Mexican department/grocery store, an active Mexican plaza-park ("Parque de las Palapas"), the famous "Mercado 28" outdoor market and, last but not least, an easy walk to catch a bus to the beach. Finally, a double is very economical at under $40 USD per night. When at Los Girasoles I particularly enjoy getting to stay in and savor the flavor of Mexico while still enjoying the amazing beaches of Cancun.
