We stayed here for 6 nights, including the New Year's Day holiday. We arranged the trip with only about 5 weeks to spare and were happy to find a place that could accommodate us. The location has its good and bad points: being close to the plazas at the centre of town brings convenience, but it also brings (at least at holiday time) noise from performers, drummers, etc. Our room was relatively quiet, but those exposed to the street cannot be the same. San Cristobal is a small town, and nowhere is 'far' from anywhere else - maybe being at the heart of everything isn't an essential here.
We stayed in two different rooms over this period, neither of them ideal. The hotel is fashioned out of an old courtyard house and a fluke in the design of the new spaces channels sounds between some of the rooms. Every cough, flush, etc. can be heard. This wasn't the case in the first room where we stayed, which was quiet and private - but the bathroom wasn't up to the mark. Most of the The rooms give on to a beautiful covered verandah, but you hear everything as groups prepare for early departure - so, not so restful.
The service was OK - nothing remarkable, and some of the reception staff appeared not to enjoy their job to the fullest. I'll go back to San Cristobal, but not to El Paraiso.
