“Not much good to say about Nizadu”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

1.Our online reservation was not honored here, we only got a room for 2nights instead of 4 we had booked through the internet. At least they helped us to find another place since it was Guelaguetza time, and dropped us there which was nice.

2.The owner is friendly, but she´s present only couple of hours a day. At other times only staff member available is one of the girls who don´t speak any english and don´t know anything about anything you ask them(for example the closest laundry service or ticket bus office).

3. The worst part: our Guelaguetza tickets were stolen from the room and we missed the whole show because of them! They were between some papers in the room(where we unfortunately forgot them), so they have gone through our stuff while we were out.

4. The hostel is really far from everything and quite a hassle to walk to late at night, otherwise you´ll have to take a taxi.

5. The rooms are extremely simple, and nothing you see in the pictures in their web page, so not really worth the price you have to pay.

6.Their breakfast is nothing special and rather small, I even got a diarrea from it.

7. The area where the hostel is located is pretty noisy with cars, dogs etc..

There are many better hotels to stay in Oaxaca, and if you for some reason choose to stay at Nizadu at least make sure you have all your valuables with you or in a safe place before you leave the room....

“Lovely, Lovely staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2009

We stayed in a private room in this small hostel. The staff are really lovely, extremely helpful and friendly. They also give you a free hot traditional breakfast every morning. The only downside would be it is a little out of the way, it is a 15-20 min walk to the Zocalo, which doesn't sound like much but it is very hot in Oaxaca. Overall a great little hostel, it has free breakfast, free internet, free movies, a nice roof terrace, nice clean rooms and great staff.

“A charming, friendly hostel with lovely, helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2009

I am shocked to see that this place has received a bad review. For a hostel, the place has great facilities - free internet access, DVD collection, and even TV in private rooms, which you would only normally find in a hotel, and the breakfasts were lovely - typical Oaxacan food included in the price of the stay - I don't understand the complaints at all.

I stayed with my boyfriend for 2 nights in a private room, and had a really nice time, the staff were extremely friendly and could not have been more helpful. - For example, we arrived very early in the morning having caught an overnight bus from Chiapas, and as our room was unoccupied, we were allowed to check in 5 hours early, and were given breakfast that day free of charge (which we shouldn't have been entitled to). They also helped us plan trips around the area, recommending things to see and do.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a reasonably priced hostel in Oaxaca with a friendly atmosphere.

“Very friendly hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2009

Great place to rest for a few days.It is at walking distance from the Zocalo at a real mexican neighborhood. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are quite new. The breakfast is good and different every day.

“I'd give this one a pass (meaning, skip it).”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2009

We weren't very impressed with the Nizadu. It's clean and fairly quiet in terms of street noise (tho the walls between the rooms are thin). But the rooms are small, spartan to an extreme, and dark, the only window opening out onto a narrow corridor. The breakfasts were unappetizing, and the location isn't great, quite a ways from downtown. The manager is very nice but didn't honour our reservation (even though we had paid a deposit) but I think that was due to inexperience. Maybe if it were half the price ..... since for the same money you can get a much nicer hotel.
