“Beautiful old hotel”

From the moment we arrived, the staff were very helpful and spoke good English. The building is amazing, a time warp but in a good way. Wonderful Tiffany ceiling and detailed Art Nouveau design. Our room (deluxe Queen) was spacious with a big bathroom and an excellent shower.
Sadly the Terrace restaurant and bar was closed for refurbishment but we had drinks on the floor beneath which gave us great views onto the Zocalo. Our deal included breakfast which made it very good value. Highly recommend this hotel for its location, service and style.

Room Tip: Suites face the square, worth upgrading to deluxe

Thank you for your comment, we are very proud to know that you enjoyed you stay. Perhaps you would consider giving us the pleasure of attending you again in the second half of next March, we would love to introduce you to our new and renovated Terrace restaurant; with our new restaurant concept, design and courses but maintaining the key aspects such as the privileged Zocalo view and the warm service; we are sure it will be quite a success.

“In the Heart of Mexico City”

From the airport, we arrived the Gran by taxi, dropped off in the street. We dragged our heavy suitcases up the entrances flight of steps to what looked like a deserted City Railway Station without any trains or railway lines. In the far diagonal corner through the merky light, sat the Porter, motionless. We got ourselves across to the Reception Desk and were allocated a room and taken to it by the Porter. We felt from hereonin we were now cacooned in a timewarp. The rooms are Victorian in every way and in essence, the Hotel is a mauseleum. We would not recommend it. Unfortunately we did not have the view on the websites, we looked straight into the wall of the neighbouring building. Something flooded the bathroom - we are not sure if it was caused by the shower of the toilet.

Room Tip: If you want the view on the website you need to ask for the appropriate room.

Thank you for your sincere words. We are very sorry to know that you did not enjoyed our classical style. Since the hotel is placed in a historical building that is famous for its emblematic aspects like the stained glass ceiling and the panoramic elevators; a classic style and decoration are maintained in order to harmonize perfectly. As for the bathroom we would like to mention that as soon as our maids noticed this little detail, they reported it and it have been already repaired.

About our porter, we are going to keep an eye on him. However, we believe that most likely he did not see you, otherwise he would have offered help straight away with your luggage from the beginning.
As for our rooms, we are sorry to know that you expected a different view. Maybe you would like to check our website for further information, where we have detailed information of our different kinds of rooms as well as the services, characteristics and views of each of them. We currently count with three kinds of views: Zocalo view, 16 de Septiembre St view and Internal view.

We feel thankful for your kind words. It is always inspiring to know that our guests appreciate all the effort made by our colleagues to offer you the best service. We hope that you had the chance to hear the full story about the stained glass ceiling or the panoramic elevators. Our English-speaking Concierge or any other of our colleagues know the Hotel’s history and will gladly narrate it to you.

“Great location at a very reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

At one time, this hotel was no doubt magnificent, but now it is showing some signs of needing updating as a number of things are a little too well worn. The housekeeping in my guest room was adequate, but not outstanding. That being said, there were a lot of good aspects. My room was spacious and quiet. The hotel location is excellent, right near the zocalo, or main plaza in the center of town. The rate was very reasonable and I recommend opting for the Business Package, which provides breakfast for an extra $10. Wi-fi was free, and there are two computers guests can use near the main lobby. There is also a small gym for guests which has a decent mount of equipment such as a stair stepper, several treadmills, free weights and some other machines.

When we checked in, there was only one clerk at the desk, so he kept getting interrupted by the telephone. Rather than put the calls on hold, he dealt with each call, so the process was a little slow. This seemed to be the norm at the desk. We ate in the restaurant one night, and the prices were pretty reasonable. One disadvantage to the location is that there are not a whole lot of restaurants outside the hotel to choose from, and most close by 8:00 pm, which surprised me. (The hotel restaurant had later hours). The food and the serivce in the hotel were good.

Being there in January, it was fairly cold at night, and the hotel does not have heat. So, my room was chilly. They provided me with an extra blanket, which did help. The hotel does have air conditioning, however. The bathroom was nice, but dimly lit, making putting on makeup a challenge.

The hotel is conveniently located near the metro and is just a few minutes walk to the stand where you could book a city tour. It is also close to the catherdral and recently discovered Mayan ruins. The hotel arranged van trasportation to the airport for us and it was only 300 pesos, or about $23.

Room Tip: An inside room is very quiet.

I really enjoyed the Hotel. I appreciate every detail of the art neuveau. Just some things to upset: a little variety on the menu and the exorbitant cost of taxi given by the hotel.

We are grateful for your comment, it is always nice to receive some feedback from our guests. About the variety of our menu, we would like to mention that in our restaurants we offer Mexican-International cuisine; in case you do not find anything appetizing to your palate, our Cheff will gladly serve you a special course prepared under your specific needs.
As for the cab service, we would like to point out that the cabs used are touristic radio-tracked units which are completely safe. Due to this security their rates tend to get a little higher than regular cabs.
