“Beautiful house with excellent rooftop views”

I really enjoyed my stay in the Alhondiga House with my good friends and their 3-year old son. The house itself is clean & nice with a front yard (a rarity in this town) and an excellent rooftop overlooking all of Guanajuato. The neighborhood is especially nice in that it's so far from vehicle traffic - quiet, peaceful, and you'll get a workout from the steps down & up from town. Mike was a great host in general and when I forgot my wallet in the house, he promptly sent it to me in NYC by DHL which was hugely appreciated. Highly recommended!

“Lovely apartment with a beautiful view from the roof”

I spent a wonderful week in Guanajuato in one of their one-bedroom apartments. My apartment was spotless, very well decorated, and had absolutely everything I needed. The owners truly thought of anything a short or long-term visitor could need. While I enjoyed staying outside of the center of town in a local neighborhood, some people may not like the 15 minute walk each way to the historic center. There are really inexpensive taxis and buses though so it shouldn't be much of a problem for most people. The other thing I would warn people is it gets cold in Guanajuato in the winter time at night. The days were warm (around 70 degrees) but it got down to the 30s and 40s at night while I was there.

“Your seach has ended here! This is the place to stay in Guanajuato!”

That's right. Look no further. If you are looking for a getaway in a Guanajuato B$B, within the Historic District Colonia Centro (Centro is definitely where you want to be), that serves fantastic Mexican homemade breakfasts, has spotlessly clean and cozy bedrooms and incredible hosts, then La Casa de Dona Ana is the place to stay!

Celebrating our 30th anniversary, my husband and I stayed 9 nights the end of June, 2010 in the Revolution Room which we really loved. It has a beautiful Talaverna ceramic sink in the room, a private WC and a hand carved painted built in closet & dresser. The bed was very comfortable and we especially loved the revolution artifacts and pictures decorating the room. The window opens to a beautiful flower box that overlooks the climbing steps of Callejon Calixco which is one of the local walkways that rises all the way up to the huge statue of Pipila on top of the canyon of Guanajuato. They say here that " If you weren't in shape when you arrived, you certainly will be when you leave!" Our room also opened onto the open-air courtyard, filled with colorful exotic plants & flower boxes. The living room contains magnificent handcrafted artwork, a TV, VCR, CD, Internet access & a huge variety of books. The custom-made wrought iron spiral staircase takes you up to the roof , then up again to the very top deck. Wow! An amazing 360 degree view of Guanajuato! Simply breathtaking and a great escape at the end of the day.

Our hosts, Ana and Mike Anderson, are so accommodating & gracious and so very talented. They renovated this old home themselves and managed to fill it with incredible
pieces of artwork from Mexico & Guatemala. La Casa de Dona Ana should be a museum! Ana and Mike shared with us some fascinating history of Guanajuato, suggested great places to see, local favorite restaurants to enjoy and tours to take.

We have traveled all around the world and this is definitely one of our vacation favorites. Stay here at La Casa de Dona Ana. You'll be glad you did.

“Delightful Stay at Casa Alondiga (the Alondiga House) in Guanajato, Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2010

My wife and I recently spent a delightful and relaxing week in Guanajuato, Mexico. One great part of our stay was living in the Alondiga House (Casa Alondiga), owned and operated by Ana and Mike Anderson. Staying in a clean, well apportioned and completely stocked house in a hillside neighborhood allowed us to feel the rhythm of the city and get a feeling for the neighborhood. From the finished roof-top where we had a view of the surrounding area, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, as the city below us came alive. The house was a comfortable place to be, and we enjoyed being able to come home and relax between outings and strolls through the city. It is 10-15 minute walk to the Plaza Jardin that would take us past a number of picturesque smaller plazas, depending on which route we chose to take. We were also a short walk from the Mercado Hidalgo (Hidalgo Market) as well as from a full service grocery store. This made it convenient to either eat in or dine at one of the many wonderful restaurants. The Alondiga House is one of several places the Ana and Mike Anderson operate. Renting a place of our own made our stay in Guanjuato more affordable, and provided us with much more space than you would get when staying at a hotel. We had a great time and would definitely choose to stay there again. Mike was very help to us when we arrive. He met us at the house and gave us a great introduction both to the house and to the city.

“Most charming place of our 3 months long holidays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2010

During our 3 month long around the world trip, one of the highlight was staying at "la casa de dona ana". Very well situated, you are 2 minutes walk from the center, and 10 minutes walk from a great view of the city
The house has a great rooftop where you can enjoy a fantastic view of the city. The rooms are very nice. We stayed in "la revolucion". Even though it's right by the alleyway, me and my wife found the place very quiet. Actually we were the only guest at that time in the B&B. And even though Guanajuato is a bit of a noisy at night with all the mariachi bands walking around the city, and the festivals, etc, we found our room and the casa dona to be very quiet ...
The hosts, Ana and Mike were great. The breakfasts were copious and very tasty. And they changed (unlike some hotels where it's everyday the same thing). And the house is so interesting. It's a house with history, filled (like a museum) with mexican (and other central american) folk art.... We actually spent a lot of time looking at all the objects. Mike and Ana told us stories on how they got all the objects, where they came from, what they meant, how they are made.... It was so interesting and so kind of them to spend so much time explaining. When we went to the folk art museum in Mexico city, it really helped us to understand better the objects.
Mike and Ana, were really helpful and kind and made our stay in Guanajuato special.
Thank you Mike and Ana for the great memories (and for the photos you sent us)
