“not a bad deal, when booked online”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

stayed there Sept 22, 2011 and paid 1,100 pesos (at 13x1) for jr. suite 324, with park view, which we wanted with all the inherent noise, as we live in the desert and need some stressy sounds twice a year. The hotel is quite okay, 3 blocks from Sanborns and right at pedestrian shopping area. However downtown GDL is not really a shopping area by euro or American standards, it;s a mix of hardware stores, junk food and factory "boutiques". The hotel staff was average friendly and the place was clean, yet uninspiring, free underground parking. Compared to Morales and de Mendoza, same thing, really, if you're driving, great spot to get into and out of city, right turn and 10 minutes to Tlaquepaque, left and 4 blocks then left again, 20 minutes to Vallarta Avenue, shopping and dance clubs, restaurants galore. So for 2 days in GDL, especially with a car and or needing taxis, I'd say not a bad place, just don't expect colonial furniture or fixings....

Room Tip: while naturally noisy, park view rooms are most attractive, watch the chaos below and listen to cath...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

My wife and I arrived by bus ,early (6 am) for check in. Check in is actually not till one pm. The clerk let us check in at 7 am. Thank goodness( we were beat from 8 hr bus ride.) However room we were in (#338), was in back part of dark hall way. Next day asked for and received change of room to (#302). Facing court yard lobby.
Little more noise, but much brighter. .
Piano music some evenings, from lobby. Enjoyed . Internet service was sparadic... Had to go to lobby sometimes to get signal..
Location of Hotel was excellent. Walked to Theater Degollado, gov't bldgs, Plazas , easily..Bus line , 2 blocks over at 16 de Septembre. From there to Tonala, Tlaquepaque.
Enjoyed are stay. Overall , a little funky, but charming.

Room Tip: Basic room, with TV, shower, tub,. Clean .

“Excellent Stay in Centro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

We stayed here for 10 days at the end of January - Room 406 was great. It faced an interior courtyard . It was a quiet location as we did not hear any street noise. On the weekends there was piano music coming from the lobby but it did not last long into the evening. The room had a double or queen bed, closet space, sink separate from toilet and shower, vanity/desk and TV. The rooms were very clean and in good shape. Two bottles of water were provided everyday. The restaurant had an excellent buffet every morning. The staff did not speak much English but were very friendly and accommodating. From the hotel you can walk anywhere in Centro. If you need a taxi they are right across the street from the entrance. Several banks are close by if cash is required. High speed internet was free and worked very well.

“Generic Colonial”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2010

Fits the colonial-style mode. Three room types: window room onto street noise; airless interior corridor room; and, room overlooking interior courtyard. Take your pick, take your poison. Selected #3 as least of evils for this stay. Open window on courtyard let in noise and afforded no privacy. But, had to leave it open as the air in the room was still, damp and impregnated with the built-up residue of cleaning solutions, though strangely the room itself did not seem clean. Breathe through your teeth inside the Santiago de Compostela. Rate included good wifi internet, but no breakfast. No discount offered from rack rate if you walk in without reservation. Plenty of food options nearby; Hotel situated a block off the main avenue, and within easy walking of all the sites of historico centro. After one night here, you can walk the area to discover a better hotel.

“Dirty!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

First room I have been taken to was dirty: dirty carpets, dirty and stained chair, hair on the floor in the bathroom. I have asked for another room without carpet and was taken to one. Here I found cheewing gum on the floor beside the wimdow, dirty and stained chair again, dirty courtains and hair on the floor in the room and in the bathroom.
There was a lot traffic on the street due to the construction and it has taken me 40 minutes to get to the hotel's garage from the back street, the front entrance was blocked by the construction. Only because my car was already in the garage I have decided to stay and asked that they send houskeeping to clean. Someone showed up with a broom and did a half good job cleaning the hair off the floors. She explained that it was probably the same maid cleaning both rooms (on 2 different floors)and that is why it was done so poorly. She said that they will look into it and talk to her. She had no explanation about other things, only mentioned that the owners are not really willing to spend money to keep the hotel in decent shape. Well, then- I will not spend my money there either.
The room I have seen are small with 2 double beds, 1 chair and a narrow table where the TV is placed. There is poor ventlation and very depressing feel, small window faces the interior of the hotel (I have not asked to be in the room facing the street due to the construction and traffic that is always there).
