“Amazing View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2011

I stayed at Villas el Morro for three nights with my boyfriend in February and we loved it! We were looking for a relaxing time to enjoy the sun and each other and the hotel was ideal. We preferred going down to the pool in the mornings when it had the most sun and we always felt like we had to place to our selves since no one else came down at this time. The pool and view are just perfect. The hike up the 150+ steps to get to the hotel can get old, but really wasn't a big deal. We enjoyed walking the 10-15 minutes it took to get into town every day.

We did have a problem with our room, but the staff quickly resolved it. We reserved the superior room with a jacuzzi tub, but found that the water was only lukewarm. It was ok for a shower, but not ok for sitting in the tub. We told the staff and they checked the boiler, but we still had problems. In the end they moved us to a very large suite with a full kitchen and living area, because it was the only other place available with a jacuzzi. We were quite happy!

If possible, I recommend getting a room with a balcony, you're going to want to have one to fully enjoy the amazing view!

“Best View in the City”

My wife and I went in Spring of 2008 and had a great time. The photos on the website are a little misleading, (fancy hot tub no where to be seen, infinity pool low on water, parking lot omitted from view) but if we go back to Zihuatanejo we would definitely come back to Villas El Morro! All in all it was a great stay. It was an easy walk down to town and served as a great base of operations. The evening view of the bay from the balcony was the perfect cap to a long day of surf and sand. The staff was exceptionally helpful in pointing out great restaurants and helping decipher the local bus schedule. (Bonus: super clean and cute towel animals on your bed everyday).

  • Disliked — No food/drinks at the hotel. Had to bring beer from town.

“Stunning View!!!!”

This was a brilliant hotel high up on the side of a mountain. It has the best view of Zihuatanejo bay that you can find in a place to stay. The pool was kept very clean since they cleaned it about everyday. The rooms were clean and well equiped for cooking. We cooked two nights while we were there because we went fishing the second day and caught our dinner. The third day we went to Trocones which is a 25 minute drive going back past Ixtapa where you can buy 1 kilo of lobster for 100 pesos or about 10 bucks. I recommend going there to buy yourself a great fresh lobster meal. There is only AC in the bedroom but the place is a good enough size that if you leave the bedroom door open and not an outside door that the place stays cool. Obviously if you leave an outside door open the cold air gets out and hot air gets in. The bathrooms were a real good size with a nice shower. The people were very friendly to help you in anyway possible. The only downside was the room cost over 100 dollars a night which seemed a little steep. But it was only a 5-10 minute walk to the pier then easy to get into town. It is well recommend if that is your price range.

“great hotel - great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2008

We loved staying here - the view is incomparable, the room was clean and very comfortable, and the staff was great. We felt very safe and well attended. The bathroom was quite spacious and included a Jacuzzi tub (Superior room). For our next stay, we would probably opt for a room with kitchenette and balcony. The only option for dining without having the kitchenette was for us to take a cab (40 pesos) or walk to the Centro (about 5-10 min) to a restaurant. We enjoyed the walk, and rarely took a cab. The hotel is high on a hill, and requires a walk down (or up) about 170 steps if you decide to walk to/from Centro area. Most people walk down the steps into town, but then hire a cab to drive back up directly to the hotel. We enjoyed the exercise both up and down. A cab will show up to take you into town within about 10 minutes of calling for one. The hotel locks a security gate at 10pm every night so we felt very safe. The room includes a safe in the spacious bathroom closet and a refrigerator, air conditioning, and TV. There is no phone in the room, but the veranda (which functions as the front desk and is unmanned most of the time), has a phone from which to call a cab, etc. We felt this was a great value for the price and we were very satisfied. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

  • Liked — The view was spectacular!
  • Disliked — No dining on premises nor very close - but we liked walking into town to eat. You can easily take a cab if preferred.

“Be careful when you book...”

My husband and I just returned for the Villas El Morro on March 8/08. When we could not book a room online with the travel websites due to unavailability, I booked a standard room for one week directly through the hotel owner. When we arrived home we were shocked to find both our credit cards had been charged a second time for the room (over $700). Be very careful when booking this hotel with your credit card, especially if you do it online. The owner maintains we had booked the room twice and is not forthcoming with a refund for these unauthorized overcharges. It is a shame as we had a nice time at the hotel and would have gone again next year if not for this unfortunate incident. It has put a very negative spin on an otherwise lovely vacation.
