Back in April, a bunch of us girls decided a ladies getaway to Zihuatanejo would help us get through the November in Seattle blues a little easier. After several days of sifting through stuffy, expensive condominium vacation rentals on VRBO I came across Villas del Palmar on tripadvisor.com and boy am I sure glad I did! The moment I contacted Ruben about booking our stay, I knew this place was going to be amazing. He offered us Villa #3, a three-level villa with more than enough room to accomodate six giggly girls, at an amazing price. Ruben was so great to work with during the booking process, genuine and friendly, answered all my questions about Zihua, and offered to pick us up at the airport! When he picked us up it was like we were being greeted by an old friend! He even stocked our fridge with cold Coronas before we arrived at the villa and it was a very nice, refreshing surprise!
As soon as we arrived at Villas del Palmar we were amazed by the beauty of our surroundings. The villas are set in a grove of palms, hibiscus and other beautiful flowers surround the refreshing pebble bottomed salt water pool, butterflies flit around, grackles squawk, and other tropical birds sing their songs. Three resident orange tabby kitties (the sweetest kitties in the world!) were our welcoming committee and were always around to entertain and give us kitty love. We spent our first two days of our vacation poolside, it was so peaceful and relaxing. Our neighbors staying in the other villas were very nice, there was a good amount of privacy from the other villas, and there was an ample amount of lounge chairs for everyone to laze about in with both shade and sun options but I preferred just sitting in the wading part of the pool with cerveza in hand. Our villa was very clean and beautifully decorated with natural, local crafts and furnishings.
Ruben was a pleasure and the most gracious host; always making sure we were having a great time and that we had everything we needed like fresh towels, extra toilet paper, bottled water, and gave us excellent dining recommendations in La Ropa and downtown. When we would decide to tear ourselves away from the pool to explore Zihua, he or his groundkeeper Marcelino always offered to give us a ride if they were around. It was a short walk to Playa la Ropa (about 5 minutes) and if you wanted to go to El Centro (downtown) you could catch one of the many cabs on the main road in front of the villas for 35-50 pesos.
Out of all the vacations I've taken to Mexico, this was one of my favorites and I was extremely sad to leave Villas del Palmar. But it makes me happy to know that I've found such a gem in Villas del Palmar and Ruben and I look forward to returning again and again and again.
