“Major mainteinance needed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

This hotel used to be a star hotel in the bay... In 1980...

The building is still quite nice and the facilities are good. Value for money is not a question. You do get more than what you pay for. Mainly because of that you can expect this hotel to be overcrowded (not with the best crowd), full of kids and not delivering the best when it comes to having a relaxing time. But that is pretty much applicable to any other hotel in this area).

Room Tip: Ask for a room in a floor 18+, preferably on the side facing the newer part of the bay.

“Fabulous time in Acalpulco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

A fun, low-key hotel in the heart of the main strip. The staff and general vibe at the hotel was very good. We enjoyed the drinks and lunch by the poolside. Rooms were bright and airy - make sure to ask for a view of the beach, it was amazing.

As an aside, you want to be diligent and find out about the political situation. Acapulco has a huge police presence because of the war with drug cartels. This can be daunting when walking the strip to see so many police and army patrolling the tourist areas with AK 47s.

Room Tip: Ask for beach side view and floors above 20.

“Music out front”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

I've stayed at the Crowne a couple times and the rooms are showing wear, and the beds are hard.
But the lobby, security, and outside areas are still very good.
On Saturday nights the bar out front has good music and dancing. Beautiful breeze and wonderful atmosphere.
However last year, someone in management decided to make extra money on Saturdays by having a large BBQ dinner that filled the lobby area, and crowded out the bar dance area. We avoided going after that. We still went once in a while and saw our favourite waiter, Mario.

“September - hotel was empty - good for short stays - beds are uncomfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

My husband and I stayed here for two nights to be able to walk to stores and restaurants nearby. Great value, we were upgraded to a corner ocean view suite (1528)on the 15th floor. The view of the ocean and bay was spectacular. Room had lots of square footage with at least 50 lineal feet of balcony wrapped around the L-shaped room. The relaxing sound of Roaring crashing waves easily passed through the single pane windows. No chairs on balcony and its narrow so just room to stand and be captivated by the view.

We noticed a small pool of water on the tile floor in the sitting area which the bellman quickly sent someone to remedy. There had been a lot of rain or perhaps it was condensation from the AC unit. Once removed, the water didn't return. Staff was plentiful and helpful but don't expect everyone to speak English.

September is low season and we were practically the only folks at the pool or restaurant. There is no real lobby or place to sit down. The business center with several new desktops has free internet so that was convenient. Especially since it was the rainy season and the streets were flooded like creeks the day we arrived. The bellman has umbrellas available and the rain didn't stop us from wallking to the two nearby malls and restaurants nearby.

No spa at the hotel and several neglected areas around the hotel. There was a "party deck" area with several pools and vinyl lounges but it appeared abandoned.

While there was a travel advisory, we felt safe and secure. The crowne plaza beach is roped off and security stands guard in several places. Vendors will halt at ropes to get your attention and sell fake silver, t-shirts, hammocks, cigars, etc... I did take advantage of a massage on the beach for $200pesos - a bargain and excellent!

Huge waves on the beach 20' high. I didn't see anyone swimming in the ocean in front of the CP - too powerful but further down in the bay kids were sand surfing. Pool seating was comfortable plastic lounge seating with tight blue mesh. Pool staff would quickly ask if u wanted umbrella, drink etc... Lots of staff with practically 0 guests.

Oasis mexican restaurant was closed the night we arrived so we dined across the street in an open air mexican style cantina with chips/salsa, tortilla soup, beef tacos and 2 colas for $175pesos.

Bath is small and shallow with 8'ceiling height throughout except the bed area which is approx. 9'ceiling height. I like that the toilet and bath are together and the sink is outside in an alcove.

i would not recommend this hotel for longer than a couple of nights unless you really like hard beds. The king bed was very hard like sleeping on a pool table and the pillows were solid. After sleeping the first night, i needed a massage and had a sore neck. Next time i would inquire if there were rooms with different mattresses or request feather pillows. The upside because I knew it would not be the best but its very convenient to the activity of acapulco and the best beach. For the next 5 nights we stayed at the Acapulco Princess (ck out my review) and didn't leave the grounds.

Room Tip: Bring sleepers so your feet stay warm on the cold tile floor in the room. Check on the mattress and...
