“A camp ground with a tent would of been better”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2009

The hotel is old and area was horrible. The pool was as dirty as the water in it was cloudy and hazzy. Be careful of the food and the surroundings of this hotel. There is no luxury about this place.... It is sad to see the poverty on the street everywhere you go. The noise from the alley which the window overlooks was scarry.... This is one trip which could of been avoided.

“Don't ever stay here-never-never-never”

As part of a group of college students, we only stayed over a weekend. Wiil never stay here again ! Dirty, unfriendly, over-priced crap hole. Someone broke into ouir room ( we were only gone for 1 1/2 hrs ) and stole electronics and wallets etc. while we were out. had to have been the hotel staff--no forced entry-balcony still locked from the inside-all the signs of an inside job. They wouldn't call police and would not review surveilance tapes. Hotel is in process of being sold, so we were told, therefore they weren't allowed to view the tapes. Something smelly in this hotel beides the rooms. Everyone should avoid this hotel at all cost. We felt unsafe as though we were being watched the whole time we were here--AND I guess we were !!!

“a nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2007

I have been staying at this hotel for at least 12 years in a row, and will be going back again this January. The hotel is always very clean and the staff has always been very friendly and helpful. Many of the staff have been there for years and years and recognize us when we come in. There is a casual restaurant in the lobby as well as a nicer restaurant. The lobby is a great place to have an inexpensive meal. The beach is across a busy street, but once you are at the beach it is very pleasant. The disco's are very popular and they are loud, but you can request a room toward the back of the hotel which is much quieter. They have a nice clean pool in the back of the hotel. The prices are always reasonable. Acapulco is a big city, and is not for everyone, but it has a large variety of things to do and see, and this hotel is right in the middle. Taxis are everywhere and are not expensive, but you should ask the rate first anyway. There is a rate chart on the wall by the bell captain's desk. The only people I would not recommend stay here would be someone looking for a place where all you can hear are waves crashing on the beach. For that you need to go to the other side of Acapulco on the oceanfront, and pay two or three times more for a room. The beds in this hotel are changed every day, the room is cleaned every day, towels are changed every day just like any other decent hotel. The only thing we ask for are more pillows, because they are kind of small. Or maybe it is just that my head is big. Anyway, it is a nice place with very nice people. Hope you have a nice stay.

“Avoid this dump at all costs”

This is the worst exposure I've ever had to contempt, oblique threats, and dismissive, patronizing rudeness in ANY hotel ANYWHERE. The staff were as bad as they could be --without demanding an open confrontation. Slimy. This hotel -- and Acapulco itself to a large extent -- are a poor commentary on the great country of Mexico, its wonderful people, and its long valued place in our hearts. I really, really recommend that all travellers avoid La Tortuga. It will leave a bad smell in your nostrils and a bad taste in your mouth for years.
