“Word of advice...Get the european plan and eat out!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

It is now the 7th time that I have visited acapulco, each time for two weeks a piece, and every time we stay at the "now" Emporio Acapulco. I say "now" because I've stayed there when I was a kid and teenager when it was the Hilton, and Intercontinental. The weather is absolutely remarkable!! I have never been anywhere else where it has not rained while I stayed for a two week period! The weather never went below 32 and hit a balmy 35 a couple days each week.

I just wanted to say that it is a decent hotel, the grounds are well kept, and it has two nice pools. If you have kids its great because one of the pools is a lazy river style with a slide, and an adults only pool if you have no children. They also have live birds and turtles on the grounds which is nice for the kids. The service will vary, and depending on who you get, may speak very little english, and now a days I have noticed that they cater to their own first. It seems over the years it has become more of a popular spot for mexicans from mexico city, rather than the north american tourist. I would highley recommend buying a european plan rather than an all-inclusive package, that covers your breakfast and even lunch, as the dinner buffet is nothing short of unspectacular and at times bad. You can eat out for fairly cheap every night at places like El Fagon, Tacos and Beer, Forza Italia and El Olivido. I would not recommend Kukaburros as some people do. Especially not for families or large parties, although the view is breathtaking as it overlooks acapulco bay, but your bill will be as well, if you are not carefull. Lol

My husband and I have been travelling to mexico for 20 years and the first time we have stayed at the Emporio, We definitely will be returning next year. This was the holiday of all holidays, the hotel, pools and beach area was fantastic. We were overwhelmed by the fantastic service we received. We would like to mention a few of the staff that helped make our memories special ones. The staff are Araceli, Manuel, Carlos, Angel, Zacarius, Angel and Ramon. As mentioned it was fantastic and your food is excellent.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

Stayed here for 4 nights from Dec 22 till Dec 26th.

Hotel is centrally located and right on the beach. Check in was a bit slow, but to be fair it was 3 days before xmas. We had a room on the 10th floor hoping for a sea view, and what a view it was coupled with a huge balcony. One of the best views you could hope for and after the relative cold of Mexico City it was most appreciated.
There are three pools, a rather large circular one for the bambinos, an adult only one and a small infinity pool for the romantics. One criticism was the placing of towels, books, hats, shoes in fact anything on sunbeds to reserve them. We were on our bed by about 9am and there were beds "reserved" and nobody was on them till we left at 3pm some days. There were always more beds reserved than people using them. I am an early sleeper and to see people walking down to the beds at 6am in pitch darkness was rather pathetic. The hotel did somewhat address the problem by chaining up the beds till a more respectable time. Other than that i can fully recommend this hotel for a great stay.

Dear Guest:

Thank you very much for taking the time to write the review and share your experience at the Hotel.

We are working day by day to diminish the early or night reserved chaise lounges by developing new policies. As you can imagine, its is getting difficult because we can´t please everyone. We hope to receive comprehension from our valuable Guest like you.

It is glad to read that you enjoyed the view and you will recommend us.

Hope to see you sometime soon.

“Luxury in the heart of the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

Not only was this the first time to Acapulco, but to Mexico as well. Given the recent reports of violence we were a little nervous about what we were getting ourselves into. Boy were we suprised. It turned out to be one of the best vacations ever and this was largely due to our stay at the Emporio. Situated in the centre of Acapulco Bay, the Emporio Hotel offers beautiful rooms, amazing pool areas, breathtaking views of the bay, and amazing staff. From early morning to late at night, the employees take pride in keeping the grounds of the Emporio clean and tidy. The staff such as Omar, Manuel, Martin and Gabriel were amazing as they took the time not only to serve us, but to give us information on places to see and what to avoid. As we were all inclusive, the buffet was good, however the variety could be a little better. We were disappointed at the a la carte as many of the items we wanted were unavailable. The club sandwich and hamburger are highly recommended from the pool side snack bar. Tito, the beach front water sports guy was amazing. From our first day to our last, he was pleasant, polite, and truly made you feel welcome. As for the beach itself, be prepared to be bombarded by locals trying to sell their stuff. Most times a friendly no thank you was all you needed, but they are persistant. The water was amazing, however there is a very strong undertoe which could be a bit much for small children. The pool areas are wonderful and we tended to spend most of our time at the "adults only" pool. There were always plenty of chairs to be had, and even had the opportunity to lounge in one of the outside cabana beds which was heaven. Outside the hotel there are many places to visit. A mall/casino/movie theatre across the road with a Starbucks, a market, restaurants, bars, banks and supermarket. We did go to a nightclub one evening and walked back to the hotel around 3 am. We had absolutely no problems, but were also smart about where we went. We did the evening sunset boat cruise and Roqueta Island as our excursions which were both very enjoyable. Make sure to take the VW Beatle taxis, not the one's in front of the hotel. They are much cheaper and you negotiate the price before you get in. Overall we had an amazing vacation with absolutely no problems and would return in a second.

“Perfect combination of beach paradise and local flavour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

I cannot say enough about the service that we received at the Emporio. ALL of the staff were amazing and added to the fabulous vacation that we shared. From Omar on the beach, Gabrielle the valet, Manuel, Tanya, Jesus, and all the others. Even Tino the beach sports guy.... they all treated us like royalty. The hotel was spotless, the grounds amazingly manicured and well kept, and they really took the time to get to know the patrons. We found ourselves looking at baby pictures of their kids, asking about their lives outside of the hotel, and they did the same with us. By the second day I was already dreaming about my next trip back to the exact same location. You look out of your window and see paradise, beach, sun, sand, and palm trees. You go out the other way and find the hustle and bustle of a vibrant and amazing city. We loved being in with the locals and felt very safe.
