I consider myself a seasoned traveler. My boyfriend (who is Norwegian and has traveled all over the world) was with me as well. We stayed at this hotel in December 2010 and booked the trip through Expedia. Do not make the mistake of renting a car from the airport when you land. You will be pulled over by the local "police" and you will get robbed by them during your drive to and from your destination. They will demand all of your money and valuables. That being said, just have someone at the airport drive you to the hotel. Also, be aware that when you leave the resort grounds with your yellow wrist bands, you will stick out like a sore thumb and the locals will attempt to rob or harass you. Stay on the resort grounds and try to stay by the pool area. We found the servers to be OK with customer service and the food/drinks were decently priced for what they were. Now, the breakfast served at the restaurant by the pool is overpriced.
If you do go to the beach, dont order food or drinks. Outside vendors not employed by the hotel will try to sell you food and drinks and they only accept cash. You will be unable to charge it to your room. I became extremely ill after drinking a margarita on the beach which turned out to have dirt in it. You will also be bombarded by the locals trying to sell you sunglasses, trinkets, and other miscellaneous gifts.
The room we stayed in was large in size and had a nice view. However, the over powering smell of mildew made my asthma flare and I was unable to breathe for most of the trip. Of course we weren't going to check out because the entire trip was paid for in advance through Expedia. Also, we were terrified to leave the hotel grounds after being robbed by the police on the way there. We stayed at this resort for 4 nights and five days. The 3rd day we felt so unsafe and were ready to leave. At least the cleaning lady came each day. Since we were unable to leave the resort grounds by foot or by rental car, we went to the hotel pool every day. Pretty boring. We wanted to explore Acapulco and not have to be stuck at a resort for the entire trip.
The day we left, we were driving our rental car back to the airport and were pulled over two more times by the local "police." During those two pull overs, they managed to take $800, my purse, cell phone, and both of our drivers licenses. Good think we hid our passports on ourselves as we probably would have been stuck in Mexico. Acapulco is not a safe place for Americans currently. I felt compelled to write this review so that other visitors do not get scammed. Go to Europe or the Caribbean instead. Happy Travels!
First of all; the hotel has beautiful and clean rooms. Other than that the staff is amazing, so friendly and helpful! They provide the best service! Beautiful and central location in Acapulco, with Starbucks, the beach and several pools as the closest neighbor! A perfect stay!!
I came to Acapulco for a congress and stayed at this excellent hotel which is located in Acapulco golden zone, with amazing bay views and great service. I had a master 3 bedroom suite plus with the best views of all the bay at the 16th floor. Room 1637 was amazing, well decorated, cleaness an extra point, want space ?? try this one :) Fully equipped kitchen even with dish washer, great living room with ocean front views make you feel as if u were on an infinity pool whilst watching tv or eating at the dining room. Huge terrace the main one and two more terraces for each bedroom so picture that... can't have a better bay views :). Master bedroom great and spacious, the jacuzzi had more incredible bay views and even whilst showering u r still having amazing views, makes you feel as floating in the air. The living room has a dvd player with home theather sorround sound, flat tv on each room and an extra one at the living room (4 in total). Points down ??, yes, there is a smell other people have complained about in the whole hotel, kindda humidity in old buildings but is well tolerated, second, no 24 hrs room service wtf ??? i tried ordering a hamburguer at 3 am (just came back clubbing) to find out there is no 24 hrs service, third, from the outside the hotel looks quite old and needs to be improved but on the inside is great, believe me the building wont fall down though it looks like it will lol. forth, the place is located where the main clubs are, so if u want to rest without noise and music pumping all nite long this is not the place for you There are 3 pools and are ok, service at pool is all rite, not extraordinary but acceptable and it has a private beach where u can swim and have a good time specially because there are some rocks in front of the beach preventing from big waves to break in over you. Stayed 5 nites here, i really recommend this place as a great option if u want to be in the heart of the golde zone in Acapulco with all the main clubs and restaurants in a walking distance. Security is impressive due to police, i think it has become a safe place to enjoy once again and it's safe to walk around. Try the health club and endulge yourself with an hoilistic massage as i did, u wont regret it :)
Took the family here for a five night break, and we had a probably our best experience in Acapulco so far. The hotel is right on the strip and is centrally located so nothing will be too far in either direction. Although check-in was easy we then got the Vacation Club (timeshare) hard sell from an employee, free breakfast to listen to their sales pitch etc etc, we declined and declined but it still took a while to get rid of the guy.
We had a junior suite and it was much better than we expected, above all the kitchen whch was very well equipped, with a full hob, fridge-freezer, microwave, coffee maker, liquidizer, toaster and all the pots, pans, utensils, chopping boards, wine glasses, mugs we could have wanted. Even a dishwasher, haven't even got one of those in my home! Plenty of space to dine at. Where it really helped was breakfast, we brought in some cereals, bread, eggs etc for the kids and us and made breakfast in the room every morning, you can practically pay for the difference on what it costs for the suite on this alone. Lunches and evening meals we ate outside (no need to go crazy, it is a holiday after all). I'd say for families, this is by far the best option. All of the furnishings and fittings in the room were more or less new, well maintained and clean. We really were delighted with it.
The suite also has a big bathroom with over-bath shower with a jacuzzi, kids loved that. Master bedroom is huge, comfortable king-size bed, with a balcony and a TV in there too if that's your thing. Next to kitchen-dining area is a large sofa with an enormous (50 inch?) TV, and below a music Hi Fi and DVD player. The sofa is also the second bed which is where the kids slept. It fits two teenagers/adults, and it's big enough to squeeze three little 'uns on easily. And quite confortable as a bed, not always the case with convertible sofas. This section leads out onto a balcony.
A word of warning about the balcony. It's guard rail is partly open. The gap isn't huge but we still wouldn't let our 5 year olds go out there alone, they could have fit through it if they'd really tried to. For younger kids from crawling to toddliers, you'd better make sure the balcony access door is shut the whole time. I might even consider staying somewhere else, it's really a bit scary the way it's arranged. At least make sure before you check in.
As to the rest of the hotel, there are two pool areas, the main area is divided in deep and shallow areas. In the deep areas they have jet fountains squirting around and that's also where the activities are (aerobics, volleyball, basketball etc, all aquatic obviously). In between deep and shallow was a line of sun loungers, which were all around the pool as well. Plenty of shade around and plenty of sun loungers available. Staff were attentive and served drinks and bar snacks to the loungers. Whole area was very clean. Our kids flopped around in the shallow side which curls around a rock formation, there are small waterfalls and places to set up games. While not spectacular, it was more than pleasant and the kids were happy spending hours here.
The other smaller pool area is just above the beach, they call it the beach club. We preferred it there as you could hear the sea (and the music, which is ubiquitous at practically all Mexican hotel pool, was slightly more discreet and much less idiotic to the ears). Lots of kids monkeying around here too, this hotel is definitely a family-friendly place. The beach itself is public, but the hotel sets up its own sun loungers down there and will offer you drinks etc, although you are perfectly entitled to buy them from the bar just alongside. The waves at the beach are moderate to strong, I was fine (I'm a strong swimmer) but we wouldn't let the kids swim there (and they didn't fancy it either) so one day we took them to Caleta beach on the other side of the bay where the waves are much gentler so they got their fix of sea swimming. Please take care and respect the waves at the hotel beach though, if the surf gets up one day or more, stick to the pools.
Next to the main pool is the restaurant (there are other restaurants onsite although they seem to be open a weekends only, we went during the week). We ate once a la carte and once at the buffet. The food was acceptable, a little over priced for what it was, nothing terrible was served, but it wasn't gourmet either. We ate there for convenience but there are surely better qualiy and better value options nearby. So we were happy, but not bowled over.
Service from all staff was impeccable, valet parking good although worthwhile calling ahead at busy times, four good fast elevators, cleanliness excellent throughout, and although our room was on the "road" side of the hotel we slept without disturbance. We were 14 floors up which may have helped.
In summary we enjoyed our stay, hassle-free on every count, a good place for families to lodge. Is it the very best Acapulco has to offer? Of course not, and if you are high-maintenance you should probably go someplace else. Is it a very decent hotel? For sure, and it shows through in the attention to detail in the installations and in the service we received. We will definitely go back, and soon I hope.
