“Great stay at the Grand Hotel Acapulco!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I've been going there for almost 40 years when it was the Hyatt chain. The employes are all so nice and willing to help, great service.
I stayed in a remolded room with a spectacular view of the bay. The rooms were beautiful.
Every morning going down for breakfast at "La Ceiba", was a treat where the food was great and the service even better.
Acapulco was business as usual, and I felt very safe and secure. The hotel was 75% full and it was a Monday...
Had a great time, and can't wait to go back...

Room Tip: Ask for the remolded rooms, 18th floor and up.

“Just a good place to sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Old marriot hotel taken up by independent hotel operator. Currently some reconstruction going on.
Restaurant had a breakfast beuffet OK selection but a bit pricy.
Very POOR (slow) internet access even you need to pay separetly.
Good point was the beach was clean and could enjoy an early morning swim.

Room Tip: rooms on the north west side have a btter view of the whole of Acapulco.

“Grand Hotel is beautiful on the eyes and warm on the heart!”

For me and my wife's first trip to Acapulco we chose the Grand Hotel as part of the package. We had intended to upgrade the room to one of the renovated room on the upper floors, but changed our mind after being in our room for less than an hour. We had a corner room on the fifth floor with a great view of the bay as well as the Costera on the other corner. At night we would watch the Costera and all it's bright lights and busses and taxis whizzing about, but we also loved to watch the sunset on the bay in the evening from the other balcony. House keeping was wonderful to us, although, I did my best to ensure that by leaving a $20 on the bed with a little note (on our first day). We came up from the pool a couple days later to interupt the maid so we could get our camera, and she was smiling and joking with us and started singing Feliz Navidad for us. We got the internet add-on which was sort of expensive at $15 per day, and not a great bandwidth, but it worked well enough. They have a wonderful breakfast buffet in the mornings which we ate at without fail. (For evening meals, we made it a point to try a different mexican restaurant each night). If I had it to do all over again the only thing I would change is add more time. Leaving the hotel was hard to do, and the elevator man shook my hand and gave me a hug and called me his friend.

“Old and needs work - overpriced if you are not in a refurbished, renovated room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

Stayed here while attending a convention and probably because I had the convention rate of $130 USD per night, I was put into the lesser quality accommodations. I had a large suite that looked to have the original furnishings from whenever this place was built, several decades ago. I have read that parts of the hotel have been recently renovated, but not the floor I was on.

The room was clean, the bed comfortable, but so short that a 6' 3" person like myself had to sleep sideways on it. The bathroom had plenty of water pressure and hot water. The sofa and chairs in the sitting area were back-pain causing uncomfortable. The dresser and tables were ancient and much of the furniture was encrusted in multiple layers of thick white paint. Unlike nearly all other hotels I stay at in Mexico, this one charged for internet access. I did not eat at the restaurant dining facilities so can't comment on that.

The beachside room I had gave me a beautiful panoramic view of the bay and beach, but the low quality glass patio doors let all the beach party sounds right into the room. Not all of the patio doors could be securely locked, so someone could potentially balcony hop their way into your room.

Compared to other hotels I stay at in Mexico, this one is overpriced (at least the old rooms are). This isn't a bad place, the rate is just too high for the old rooms.

Room Tip: Get a room on a floor that has been renovated. The old rooms are very much showing their age.

“Make sure you get a Remodeled Room!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Caution, make sure you get a remodeled room. Otherwise, it's not worth it. Rooms are old and not worth the price of admission. That being said, the facilities are solid, and the location is great. 20 min from the airport. Once they finish completely renovating the hotel, it should be back up to at least a 3 star hotel. Until then, caution! No way a 4 star hotel at this time.....
