“What a Find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

American Express found this place for us. We came into town at midnight, I know what your thinking so was I. Please do not believe all the bad press, we had no problems and we were in a rental car (another subject).
This place is hard to find, we paid a taxi driver to take us to it, we were two blocks away and yes it was scary because of all the hype, but really no threat at all!
The staff adjusted our rate because of our late arrival, we were moving to our time share the next day.
This place is clean as a whistle, great staff, great service, great breakfast (very resemble)
The Rooms are like being in a James Mitchner novel in the south seas, very romantic and tropical. It is too bad we were so tried from traveling and only stayed one nite.
Only draw back at the south most part of Acapulco, taxi rides about 20-40 pesos per person back into centro one way!
Stay here, price is right and it is great!!!!!!!

“Great Place to Relax and feel Pampered”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

OK.. so we went to relax on our wedding anniversary, first off october is the off season so there wasn't that many people on the property, I don't know how it gets very crowded on spring break, summer or new years... it really is kind of a long drive from the airport-toll road you have to go across all of acapulco since it's located on one of the ends of the bay... the neighborhood is a little unsettling since it's next to a beach where all the local families hang out but once you get to the place and settled in you won't notice it at all...

Anyway the hotel is some 50 odd years old... don't worry it's remodeled, minimalistic decor, hammock-A/C-flatscreen-safe-ocean view in every room, the staff was really attentive, it seems they've worked out some of the kinks mentioned in other reviews...

First off everything is really clean, rooms are comfy, you don't need much just to chill out an relax, the minibar is stocked accordingly, the pool area is a little small.. so if you want a spot by the pool better get up early because it fills up really fast... there's a terrace downstairs in the marina/boat landing/gym area where you can also soak up all the sun.. they have a privileged location so you get plenty of sun to work on your tan in all of the hotel areas...

The restaurant has a somewhat limited lunch/dinner menu but everything is very good... top notch, very tasty but after 3 days it can get a little boring... don't get me wrong we loved the food but sushi, tempura and sashimi everyday? sure they throw in some grilled fish and meat for variation... the drinks are great they use fresh fruit for everything, juices, cocktails etc

The spa is adequate, nice sauna and hot tubs, the person giving the massages was excellent, also the pedi-manicurist... the gym equipment is a little limited but useful none the less... as for the kayaks and boat, the boat is available for about 100 dlls an hour to do as you please... the kayaks are free, you just have to wait for your turn... the water is really calm and since there's no beach.. just rocks you can do some snorkeling and enjoy looking at all the fishes and little creatures that hang around the place...

Overall it's a very pleasing experience, really cool ambiance... it invites you just to unwind and relax... two peeves though first off.. they really need some new music by the pool/restaurant area... listening to the same playlist for two days straight is a little boring.. oh yeah and the wi-fi connection sucks!!

But aside from that I highly recommend the place... I'm thinking about going back in a couple of weeks!!

“WAY more than you should expect!”

My partner & I had studied A LOT before we booked Boca Chica for a 2 day chill-out before we boarded a cruise. We could not have made a better choice! It IS a trip getting there from the airport - all the way around the bay. It's not in the middle of "everything". But who wants to spend their vacation in Mexico in American bars and restaurants?! The neighborhood is not ritzy... this IS Mexico. However, we found the beach-side restaurants nearby absolutely great! We only had breakfast at the absolutely beautiful open-air restaurant; the dinner menu looked rather expensive and unfamiliar.

The gardens all throughout the property are beautifully manicured. The location of the hotel on the water is magical. The room was so fun! The weather in October was still a bit warm for us to fold open the wall to enjoy the view and breeze. The weak A/C (This is Mexico) is only effective when the louvered wall is completely closed. In that case, there is no view since there is no glass in the wall - just louvered screen doors. The room is quite comfortable. Just keep in mind that the shower and vanity are open in the room, with the toilet separate.

Yes, the outside area decks along the water could use some improvement. However, this hotel would be an incredible value for twice the money!

“Updated Vintage Hotel that will make you feel special!”

Boca Chica is an incredible hotel thats beautiful visually with an AMAZING Chef and Staff who will take care of your every need. The place was well maintained, anything you ask for was handled. The staff is WONDERFUL and they almost all speak english in case you dont speak spanish. The rooms are light and airy with a deck and hammock outside. The beds were a bit hard and uncomfortable personally. The shower makes you sort of feel like you're showering outside. The restaurant has the most amazing chef and I ate dishes that made you sigh (tuna tostada, scallop roll) The staff at the restaurant were just wonderful. Anytime something was needed (safe in the room, hangars, AC issues) they were there immediately! The ONLY downside to me was that its very far from airport/ New Acapulco so its a bit of a ride, but worth it!!

Room Tip: NO facing the Street/Beach room- SO SO LOUD

“You could feel the care at all levels”

I just retruned from 5 glorious days at the Hotel Boca Chica. I arrived early at 8am and was allowed an early check in without incident or upcharge. The staff was helpful and the twice daily maid service was something I didn't expect from a $90/night rate. The hotel has a bunch of really cool retro touches to complement the original decorative concrete block architecture: the old Frigidaire full of ice-cold beer in the lobby, the boomerang coffee tables in the public areas, and the patio furniture. And all the modern conveniences like Hansgroghe rainfall showers, digital A/C controls, flatscreen TVs with iPod ports, awesome soundtrack at the pool, and wireless. My favorite thing to do was take an afternoon nap each day in the hammock strung across my balcony. (The shuttered windows fold away to give unfettered access to the balcony). And the food was a teriffic melding of Asian and Mexican offerings that I did not expect.

Hotel Boca Chica is not located along the tourist beach strip (or up in the hills at Las Brisas, where I usually stay); instead it is adjacent to the most popular local beach in the city and close to the historical center, complete with zocalo and nightly local performances. However, let the hotel staff call you a cab if you venture out a night for your own safety.

The fashionista of Mexico must agree with me the that the pool area and outdoor gym (7 easy steps to the aquarium-like ocean) offer a scenic panorama: there were 5 gorgeous models being photographed there for a fashion spread one afternoon! Sadly, the only area of the hotel I didn't explore was the spa. Next time.

I cannot wait to return for another relaxing and delightful stay.
