We stayed at Billerwell Farm B&B on June 5th as we were approaching the end of our 12 day trip through Scotland. We just scratch the surface on what to see in the Borders and we plan to return and when we do return we will stay at Billerwell Farms. It is an old farm house that has been turned into a beautiful B&B. Do not be discouraged when you drive up to the B&B as it is a working farm. The rooms are beautiful, large with a comfortable bed, great pillows and a desk to use. The rooms are very clean with plenty of closet space. They have tea and coffee, free WIFI in your room, hair dryer and other amenities. The bathroom has a nice large tub and shower. This B&B provides some nice bathroom amenities that you would find in fine hotels.
Billerwell Farms is located out in the country and you will be driving on a single lane road to reach it. Please follow the directions that Billerwell Farms B&B provides as various satellite providers will take you the wrong way. Because of its location, Billerwell Farms is very quiet and peaceful. It is also pet friendly. Your host, Marion is wonderful, very friendly and is a great cook. She has a lot of knowledge about the Borders area and is very willing to share.
For breakfast they have a large selection to choose from such as fresh fruit, cold cereal, juices, tea, coffee, porridge, eggs made to order, bacon, sausage, haggis, potato scone, toast and great marmalades (this is only a partial list). The food is excellent and freshly made. Note, I got the full Scottish breakfast and I was not hungry until dinner. At breakfast you have a beautiful view of the large back “Yard” where you will see wild life roaming around.
For dinner we went to the nearby small town of Bonchester Bridge and ate at Horse & Hound Country Inn. Very cozy and quaint pub which began its working life as a Coaching Inn in 1701. The interior was old-style with dark furniture and crimson carpet, with equestrian and farmhouse equipment hanging off the walls and ceiling. We got a very true sampling of the local life by having dinner in the pub section. We enjoyed talking to two frendly local gentlemen about various things, including single malts. All of a sudden, one of the gentlemen brought over two different and distinct shots of single malts to try. The food was great and the company was wonderful.
Our only regret is that we only had one night at Billerwell Farms B&B. We will definitely stay here again when we return to the Borders.
