This lovely island has certainly seen some unbelievable change over the past 10 years....yet some of the best qualities (the locals + their wonderful charm, cute dining spots, bars and more) still remain. As avid boaters and deep sea fishing fans, we have taken our boat there many times and it is always a perfect spot -- under 2 hours from Miami and wonderful accessibility, things for non-fishing guests to do, great fishing in surrounding areas, beautiful water and sunsets. The hotel offers great amenities and friendly people - and when renting a golf cart, you can leave the beauty of a high-end resort, the infinity pool overlooking the sunsets and cocktails and easily venture into local Bimini faves....which is why this island is a must! You can really experience the people, the food, the relaxed vibe and of course, Goombay Smashes (local cocktail) and the "ring game"...a must at all bars....
--Amazing cracked conch ceviche overlooking the Bay @ a tiny little hut on the east side of the main drive, just south of the Bimini Bay gates --- a must! The best ceviche ever. People are so friendly there and always watching American sports! (Maybe called AJs?)
--Only place in North America that you can pay like $10 and feed yourself with baskets of fresh conch, fish, Goombay cocktails and you are sitting on a picnic table overlooking the beach and sunset. Truly a gem! A husband/wife duo run this little shack --it is just beyond the center of town and up the hill on the west side of the island -- right on the beach! Can't miss it. Ask locals for the "name" but really it is probably just named after the owner...like "Sarah's place" ! Love it!
Lots of suggestions, as we come back at least once a year -- you just must venture off the resort path (it is wonderful to return too!) and enjoy this tiny island so close to the US! It is worth the trip!
