“Great Stay at a reasonable price”

We just returned from staying one night at the Thirsty Turtle Yacht Club. The hotel is located just inside the first canal (on right side) as you enter Bimini's harbor. The room was very simple & large for us; had two queen beds. It had a kitchenette and a very clean bathroom. The hotel was recently bought and is being renovated. We were able to park our boat behind the hotel without any problems. We had breakfast at the restaurant. Very simply menu but enough to satisfy our hunger. Bimini has the prettiest water I have ever seen...turquoise blue and clear to the bottom. Don't forget to bring your snorkling gear and a underwater camera would be a PLUS. Overall, our only complaint is that there were alot of mosquitos on the island. DON'T FORGET THE OFF SPRAY...

Went to bimini in Mar. 2009. We had the time of our life. The Turtle is a blast, always a great place to meet new friends! Brent and Joni are great, the resort is clean, food is awesome and location is perfect! Would live there if we could!

“Newly renovated, clean comfortable and very friendly”

I just got back from a stay at the Thirsty turtle. The hotel now has new owners and they have renovated the place and added rooms with kitchenettes. The hotel was renovated very nicely and the rooms are clean, very large and very comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is great. There is boat dockage available with about 5 feet depth at the dock, to get in the channel, at low tide, the depth is only about 2.5 - 3 feet. At high tide, there is about 4 feet. It is great for outboard and smalled inboard boats.

“Simple but Cute”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2003

We just got back from flying a private plane over to the island. This was not my first trip to the island but it was my first overnight stay there. First of all, Bimini should be noted for its scuba diving and deep sea fishing and not for its hotel accomodations. We found the "Yacht Club" to have very simple rooms (no TV, phone, radio, coffee maker, microwave oven, refrigerator, face cloths, etc.) but the A/C did work and the rooms and sheets were clean. Because we were there for an overnight trip for the sole purpose of diving (we dove with the shop there on property, Scuba Bimini-now THAT is another story altogether) we did not need or expect much in the way of luxury and amenities and we did not get it. The staff of the hotel/restaurant/dive shop made our stay quite enjoyable. We were a short drive/walk from both the airfield and the dock for the water taxi over to North Bimini. The food at the restaurant was very, very good. Expect to pay what you would for a comparable type meal in the U.S.; you get no great deals, just good food and good service. The dive shop, however, has a few issues with rental gear that must be addressed. If you have your own gear you will be fine. If you have to rent, you may reconsider bringing your own.
However, if you must rent their gear which was our case, you should expect to find gear in very limited supply. We found their equipment to be old, not well taken care of, worn out and barely useable. The bc, reg, mask, fins, snorkel, and wet suits we used were left lying on the boat hours well after we dove as opposed to being rinsed in the fresh water tank immediately after use. This might explain why the zipper on the skin I was given was sealed shut with obvious salt and corrosion.
Further example of shoddy equipment, the soft weight packets had holes in them which leaked the small pellets inside, the divemaster's BC leaked, neither mine nor my dive buddy's depth gauge worked (a dive incident waiting to happen), the deflater button on my power inflater house was missing (lucky I had other means to dump air) and as a result of all of the above, we had to cut our first dive short. After surfacing, I decided it was a good idea to err on the side of caution and cancel the second dive. The dive master and boat captain did their best to make up for what was barely their fault by allowing us to visit other sites and snorkel. I would likely stay at the Yacht Club again but have some reservation with diving with Scuba Bimini until the equipment problems are solved.
