“Definitely plan to return”

I visited South Andros for a spearfishing trip earlier this June with a few friends after hearing of the quality fishing the Island had to offer. After looking around for lodging, a friend of mine who had stayed on the island before reccomended the Emerald Palms. When we arrived we were not dissapointed. The resort taxi was waiting to pick us up and the airport and it just got better from there on. Emerald palms is beautiful! It is only a few minutes from the airport, marina, local dining, the rooms are cool, food is great, and best of all it is located right on the water. Guests of the Emerald Palms can even collect thier own fresh coconuts from trees located onsight for free. The owners and staff are extremely nice and will go out of thier way to make sure youare comfortable and have everything you need. South Andros is also paticularly nice. It is a quiet, sparsley populated island with great locals and an increadible landscape. There are all kinds of activities including spearfishing, bonefishing, deepsea fishing, kayaking, blue hole tours, and the list goes on. I highly reccomend both the island of South Andros, and specifically The Emerald Palms.

Room Tip: Request a villa on the water, increadible view

“BEST PLACE IN THE BAHAMAS”

Emerald Palms was the most amazing resort, with great service and a very friendly and helpful staff. It was paradise and offered everything you could possibly ask for. The owners of Emerald Palms are amazing and were so helpful all week. They were very friendly and catered to our every need. If you are going to the Bahamas this is without a doubt the best place to have your vacation.

“Amazing place to relax with the family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2011

My wife and two kids just got back from a wonderful stay at Emerald Palms in South Andros. The resort was truly spectacular, from great food, friendly staff, and most of all beauty! This trip was a great opportunity to relax and get away from all the loud action and people that places like Nassau and Jamaica have. I will definitely be returning again next summer!

“We were quite pleased with the grounds and room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Just got back from 5 nights at Emerald Palms, everyone was very nice and the food was good. We stayed in a club room, garden view which actually had a better view of the ocean than a club room pool view. The bikes were fun and there is a little restaurant outside the grounds that you can eat at if the dinners at the hotel are getting too expensive. You can also ride about 2 miles up the road (north) into Driggs Hill town and there is a restaurant called Ezrenas on the left hand side. She had a good selection and we ate breakfast there a couple of times. Swimming is a little rough. At least when we were there last week the wind blew constantly. The day we left it was totally gone. I tried to snorkel anyway but didn't see anything. The pool is very nice to lounge around. We also rented a car for the day ask the front desk, it was $75 for 24 hours and they came to the hotel with the car. We drove to the end of the isl Mars Bay, not much open anywhere some grocery stores and one small one gift shop on the way. We ate lunch at Skippers Rest. and Bar on the way in Kemps Bay very clean and good lunch plate and nice beach. You will need to be the very relaxing kind of person that likes to do nothing if you are staying more than 4 nights you could get restless. But if you want to dive and/or bonefish it looked like that was going on there.

There was a taxi woman that took us from the airport to the hotel $13; her name was Mrs. Lloyd she is a very outgoing person and she would love to give ppl tours of the island that we should have done so we could get an explaination of all the things we saw. It is $25 an hour. Ask for her at the front desk and they can arrange it. It rained on the last day or our trip (we don't mind that) and it was the first time it had rained in about a year we were told. It brought out tons of land crabs that she brought to show us when she dropped us off at the airport.

Only things to be really aware of is that the dinners at the hotel were always between $24-$30 and the beers at the bar (local beer at that) were $5.75! There is a liquor store about 3 miles south. If you get into the airport early enough your taxi could take you there. If it is close to 5pm they might be closed so take a bike the next day for beverages for your room. There is also a gas station before you get to the liquor store on the right hand side that has crackers, cheese, snacks, sodas, etc. Anyway over all we enjoyed it but wish there was just a little more sight seeing. I would not hesitate to stay at Emerald Palms again for a short getaway.

Room Tip: Room 203 club room, garden view had a great Oview

“Nice place-could be awesome but isn't!"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2011

We stayed 3 nights here and had a villa. The villa was very nice however, the light bulbs are far too dim in the lamps and bathroom. Still the bed was very comfortable and everything clean and well decorated. The only other issue for us was the taxi ride in. The customs agents will hustle the taxi for you. Seems really helpful until you get the fare. I guess there is not hotel furnished transfer. We were charged $30 both ways.
We really don't have major complaints-just a few suggestions that for us would have made the difference in a good place vs a great place.
A. The food is good but not memorable and the selection limited.
B. The evening dining experience is somewhat depressing. To us it felt like a cafeteria. Some real plants, good music, candles and softer lighting would be nice for the evening meal. There was some music but it was from the 70's and came from somewhere around the corner and one had to strain to hear it. The evening meal environment needs a transformation from the other two meals to make it a special experience.
C. In the evening, the bar didnt seem to be prepared for guests. Lights remained off until late dusk and the bartender is less than enthusiastic.
D. Some service at the pool would be nice. As it is, if you want it, you get up and go find it.
None of the above are deal breakers. It is a nice clean place to go, but after being on numerous Bahamas islands, for us it rates pretty low with regard to the wonderful, tropical, romantic, island feel.

Thank you for your suggestions. I would like to point out that customs agents have nothing to do with taxi's. We ask a taxi driver to pick up our guests from a flight. The fare for two people from the airport is $13.00. If you paid $30.00 it was for a round trip including a two dollar tip each way, which would be at the guests discretion.
Our guests are usually very complimentary of our staff, so I have brought your review to their attention as far as not being more forthcoming with the drinks!
It would have been nice if you had brought your concerns to us whilst you were staying with us and I am certain we would have made your holiday more enjoyable!
