Loved the location; loved the staff. The owners, however, need to finish updating the older rooms. All of our group also agreed that the cleanliness of most of the rooms was not good; sheets not changed; towels dirty; floors not cleaned, etc. Again, the remodeled rooms were better. Sad ....because the location is perfect; building charming and it wouldn't take that much to finish the job.
El Greco is an adorable boutique hotel in downtown Nassau. Located right across the street from the beach, it is colorful and cute.
We traveled to Nassau for a destination wedding which took place at Lyford Cay, a private club about 20 minutes away from El Greco.
There were guest rooms blocked off at a few hotels with El Greco being the "budget" option.
We were trying to minimize travel costs and went ahead and booked the room there, even though we had slight doubts about it.
We were pleasantly surprised throughout our stay there. The rooms were clean, the internet access was free, and the location couldn't be beat.
There were a couple of times when we needed to catch a cab and the front desk staff was really helpful in obtaining one for us right away.
We had a smaller room next to the pool and while it wasn't anything fancy, it was nice enough. It was clean and that's what matters!
There was a gorgeous suite that the groom and his buddies had that had a huge balcony overlooking the beach. It was perfect for relaxing, drinking Kalik and smoking Cubans, which is what they did most of the time :)

If you're in Nassau for a destination wedding or vacation, I'd definitely recommend El Greco.
The rooms are nice, the staff is great and the location is unbeatable.
I had stayed here before and found it to be charming though basic. This time was a big disappointment. The staff was still very friendly and welcoming and this was a plus and another plus is that it is located right in town so if you have a meeting there you are close and can for example walk to the Hilton in about 5 minutes. You are also right opposite a beach. However I still wouldn't stay there again. My room was musty and needed to be upgraded - toilet did not work properly even after they fixed it. I couldn't get anything electrical to work at first and when I went to the front desk to complain I was told that there was a master switch in the room - why not mention this on check in? They also did not tell me to leave my room key so I came in after a long day of meetings to find my room unmade and when I complained I was told that it was because I didn't leave my key at the front desk - again how would I know that? There is free internet in the room but for my room it was a very weak signal so I could hardly ever use it. They used to offer a limited continental breakfast but it is now just coffee and tea and that was disappointing. The worst thing for me was the noise from the morning crew however. They came on just before 6a.m. and I knew because they called and shouted to one another every morning.
The El Greco is a quirky hotel: mainly small, plain rooms which are dated and reasonably clean. But there are three excellent suites with a huge shared second floor balcony looking out over busy Junkanoo Beach across the suite. The staff are friendly and helpful, particularly Yolanda who mans the receprions desk during the days shifts. There is a nice pool in a small inside courtyard (great for kids). The inner courtyard has spectacular flowers and palms and is a nice place to kick back and relax.
Lively Junkanoo Beach is right across busy West Bay Street, and the British Colonial hotel and tourist shops are a five-minute walk away. From the beach you can watch the cruise ships enter and exit the harbour, buy a soda or beer, and enjoy the quiet waters.
There is no restaurant in the hotel (an empty one on the ground floor may be turned into a Denny`s in the future). A decent Asian (Japanese & Thai) restaurant called Ichiban is right next door.
This is a good hotel for budget travelers or people who want to get a feel for the real Nassau, as opposed to the big resorts on Paradise Island or Cable Beach. Cleanliness is adequate but not great. Furnishings are so-so, but the beds are good. Decent 32-inch flat-screen TV`s with cable service. Room prices, which are already reasonable, seem to be somewhat negotiable, particularly if you are staying for more than just a day or two. Free phone calls to Canada and the U.S. from a cordless phone in the lobby are a bonus, and local calls are free too.
