Wonderful place to stay. Quaint, ecofriendly, great breakfast and wonderful hosts.
During our visit on St. Thomas we chose Magens Valley Inn because of all the positive reports we read about in the internet. But nevertheless: Staying there exceeded all our expectations!
The place is wonderfully located: quiet and peaceful but with a central position to explore the whole island.
The appartment is fully furnished, clean and cozy. Steve and Leslie do everything to make you feel comfortable. For example they offered a pick up and return service, even though our aeroplane arrived late in the evening and our ferryboat left eary in the morning.
The ultimate highlight of Magens Valley Inn is the extraordinary food! Steve prepared an unforgetable Welcome Dinner for us, served in front of our appartment, and every day started with a delicious breakfast!
We highly recommend Magens Valley Inn for all of those who want a special and incomparable place to stay. We loved it!
Wow! Steve Rockstein is the man....
He picked us up at the airport and grilled a fabulous swordfish steak on the deck while we drank great French wine and listened to music, some of which he even wrote and played himself.
Yes, the dinners are worth it, in case you are wondering. Steve is a writer and photographer by vocation, even though he'll tell you that was in a previous life..... it's not, but, he should be a chef! We enjoyed dinner each night of our stay, on the deck. Steve became an instant friend, and, we were very happy he agreed to spend some of the dinner time at the table with us.
Enough about the food and Steve. The place had everything we needed and was very comfortable and clean. Yes, there is air conditioning, although we came for the weather, not the man made stuff. We slept wonderfully in the tropical night air. St. Thomas has wild chickens and Steve warned that the roosters do crow at night. That said, they never bothered us, we slept to sound I suppose!
Would we return? YES.
Traveler Tips:
This is not a 5 or even 3 star hotel. It's better in our minds. Do not come here if you are expecting a hotel with turn down service and daily maid visits. Leave your kids at home, as well as your mother in law. This place is for peace, quiet and relaxation.
You will want to have a rental car. Although you can walk on the local roads, it can be dangerous as there is very little if any walkway space.
Make sure to ask Steve directions to the Ice Cream stand at St. Thomas Dairies..... worth it.
DO NOT MISS Magens Bay Beach. The photos I am including are nice, but do not do it justice. This is the most beautiful beach we have ever been on. Locals head all the way to the left, when facing the water. Follow them....
Bottom Line? If you want a private getaway that makes you feel like a local rather than a tourist, this is it. If you enjoy great food, good wine and nice people, this is it. For us, this is it.
When we decided to split our vacation between the typical resort stay on St.John, and a stop in St.Thomas, we were looking for an entirely different experience. We wanted to feel a part of the culture, to food shop and cook some lunches, or to have our meals served if we opted to. Megans Valley Inn turned out to be the perfect choice.
MVI is located above the fray of town, but a short drive to all points, including Megans Bay Beach. In fact, our host Steve Rockstein drove off early every morning for an ocean swim before preparing our extraordinary and healthy breakfasts.
The inn has all the amenities desired, but it doesn't stretch the imagination to believe you've become a "local", living in your own cozy apartment.
Steve and Leslie are excellent hosts- warm and friendly, but quick to give to you all the space you need to become a part of the culture of this beautiful island.
A recent stay at Magens Valley Inn in St. Thomas was fabulous. The owners, Leslie and Steve Rockstein are awesome. They go out of their way to make your stay the best ever! This includes wonderful breakfast and dinners. I happened to be on diet restrictions during my stay. Steve not only prepared special meals for me but also provided gourmet meals for my companion—lots of work on Steve’s part!! I really appreciated it!!
Steve and Leslie are there to check in with. They provide great information about car rentals, touring, shopping, whatever you need. The beaches they recommended were amazing, natural and totally isolated. I am sure we would have gone to the typical popular beaches which would have been crowded with cruise ship and other tourists had we not received such good advice on beaches the natives go to.
The accommodations were lovely. We had our own kitchen and appliances, a full bath, a bedroom with a queen size bed and also a large screened in porch where we talked, read and enjoyed the scenery of palm and banana trees, view of Magen’s Bay and the sounds of the birds. There is also a table outside for candlelight dinners. Snorkel equipment, beach chairs and mat are also available for guests!
All in all, this is the best place for 1-2 guests to stay when you visit this beautiful island. We highly recommend Magens Valley Inn. Thanks Steve and Leslie!!
