I stayed at the Breakers Villa with my 19 month old son, teenage nephew, sister and mom this February 2010. I was skeptical when I saw some other posts saying that the villa had "broken tiles" at the pool and "rusty electrical outlets." It is true that the villa could be taken better care of (i.e. the windows and window wells were not that clean, there was some rust around the house due to the salty sea spray like with the metal latches, some tiles were broken on the patio, and other upgrades were needed, like the sliding glass door that was difficult to open and close), However, I have to say that the villa was just fine for our family. The owner did give us a break on the asking price for 1 week, so I think for what we paid, it was a great deal. The owners/managers were a bit stingy on some of the amenities (see below), but I guess you get what you pay for, and overall, it was worth the small annoyances. It didn't rain during our stay, but I'd be curious if the roof still leaks, as was posted earlier. Also, be sure to rent a car at least a few weeks in advance, as all cars were sold out for half of our stay due to the agricultural fair.
The views were amazing - especially the sunrises, and the very small sandy beach was very nice and an adequate size for my son to play around in the sand. It was a rocky beach, but it was fun to search for seashells and sea urchins along the beach. The pool was warm and clean and we spent much of our time by it relaxing and playing. The furnishings were nice and in good condition, and the bedrooms were a bit small but very nicely decorated. The beds were also very comfortable with nice sheets, and the bathrooms were clean and well appointed.
A few annoyances (that could be easily addressed), especially if you bring children are:
1. They said they had a high chair, but it didn't fit correctly on any chairs, so we had to hold the chair while my son ate. See if they can upgrade the high chair - this would be very helpful
2. They didn't provide any crib sheets
3. They didn't provide ANY extra sheets or pillowcases.
4. They only provided 6 beach towels
5. No beach or pool toys (?!)
6. Annoying how everything was labeled in kitchen cupboards, like you were going to steal the pots and pans.
7. It wasn't clear, even after talking with the managers, if the water really was potable. To be safe we drank bottled water.
8. Owner tried to charge us $200 for using the roll-away, when she knew we needed a bed for my nephew, and she hadn't mentioned any additional costs.
Even though these things made the villa less than perfect, overall, we had a great time and enjoyed our stay!
