My family (me, hubby 2 kids - ages 5 & 3) spent 6 nights here from Feb 4-10th. Where do I begin? Every detail was top notch from the moment we checked in. After a long day of travel, we were welcomed to the Caribbean Village with rum punch & punch for the kids. Check-in was easy. I was a little worried that the Caribbean Village would be completely outdated, but the room was absolutely fine for us, bedding was nice, furniture in great condition and bathroom was clean and updated.
We've traveled to many places in Europe as well as other Caribbean Islands and enjoy and appreciate good food and service. The food & service at Beaches is fantastic. There are so many different types of food to be had - Italian, Japanese Hibachi, Sushi, French as well as burgers and fries. We had great experiences at every restaurant. There isn't really a "recycled" all-inclusive food feeling. Every restaurant was different and true to it's particular cuisine.
Reflections has a large buffet breakfast, but Schooner's & Barefoot by the Sea have terrific table service. At Schooners, the first thing they do is offer you a mimosa :). Barefoot by the Sea service is slightly slow, but we weren't in any rush.
We heard that during our week, the resort was at 60% capacity. This meant no lines or waiting for anything at any point during the trip.
Kids Camp:
Actually, the only people in a rush were my kids, who couldn't wait to get to Sesame Camp every day. They didn't want to miss a thing. The counselors are terrific, friendly and trustworthy. If you have any reservations about having your children spend the day at camp, they will gladly give you a cell phone in case there are any issues at all (which there were none for us). My kids met all the Sesame Street characters, Elmo-cized with Elmo, danced with Zoe, made instrument with Bert & Ernie, did crafts, tye-dyed T-shirts (you must provide a white T-shirt for each child. We had to buy one for $15 at the photo shop).
Because both kids loved kids camp so much, my husband and I were able to really relax. We took out Hobie Cats, Paddle Boats, went snorkeling, took long walks and read on the beach. Then we picked the kids up in the afternoon, we all played on the beach and had dinner together. Except for one night, the kids had dinner at camp and hubby and I tried Le Petit Chateau (an adults-only French restaurant).
The weather was spectacular!
The only small complaints my husband had are that some of the beach chairs were uncomfortable for him - it's hard to explain, but they are made of muslin or something, and sometimes you couldn't get them to "set" correctly...not sure if that makes sense.
And, internet service was little spotty and difficult for him to log on, he had to maintain contact with his office at home.
Other than that, we can't wait to return next year!! This is most definitely our new Caribbean family vacation spot!
Room Tip: The Caribbean Village may be older, but the rooms are made of plaster, making them much quieter and...
