“How greedy can be”

I stayed at Nemoy's Guest house. We arrived and it was like ganny's house that someone cleaned up. Ok fine. We were told one price and upon arrival we found out their was another price involved. Bill the owner/operator said " I does run dis like crowne plaza yuh know so it have things to pay for that you missed." WHAT? Who says that one and two if we sent you $2500 in advance and it was supposed to be the entire payment in full then what do we still have to pay for again. He blamed it on us for arriving at a certain time. OK you want to pro-rate it then you should have said that and not spring a price on us as we arrive. Then he hounded us every day to get the money. He took away the water cooler cause he said we were drinking to much water. He gave us an extra bed for our room because he were charged by the room NOT by the person then he come by to try and take the bed back in the middle of our stay. WHAT? He said the room rates were by room. When we got their it changed to be by the person. WHAT? Then he wanted to have a party their to raise money for his vacation. (Listen to this one) So he said he would charge us for the entrance fee. We were not interested in funding his vacation, so we said we would not be attending his party. He said we would have to pay anyway just to get into the house. WHAT? Not only would I not stay their again but I would give it a rating of an F for F**KING RIDICULOUS. I wouldn't put my garbage in the trash their because it might have a charge attached to do so. Down below I rate this incredible staff - I don't mean that in a good way. HOW GREEDY CAN YOU BE?

Well, there were a couple of glitches, I was not able to use one of the beds in our room until the last two nights of my trip because the boards underneath the mattrese was not secure.

“good, not great B and B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2009

first of all, this is the ONLY place we stayed in Trinidad - almost our whole vacation was spent on Tobago, so the reviewers here that say that is the best value/friendliest place in PoS very well could be right - i don't have anything to compare it to other than the places we stayed on Tobago - a very different market, apparently.

First, William IS a good guy, but i wouldn't describe the rooms as big OR filled with light. they are basic and clean, with a bathroom inside, and yes, you get a big breakfast - but nothing to write home about.

so i booked here based on the glowing reviews that i read, and wanted to put my own opinion here that we didn't find Nemoy to be all that special - and at $75USD/night - not a super deal (we stayed at a much nicer place near Scarborough at $50/night) -- but that being said, if i did have to spend a night in PoS on my way to Tobago again, i'd consider doing it at Nemoy - safe, friendly, and no big surprises.

“Best B & B in Port Of Spain by miles”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2009

I stayed at the Nemoy with 3 friends in Port of Spain for a week in early March 2009, and judging by a) our own opinions and b) those of our friends who stayed at similar places nearby the Nemoy is the best B & B in Port Of Spain by a long, long way.

Firstly, it's location in Woodbrook is ideal - it's a five minute walk to the local restaurants, bars, and nightclubs and a fifteen minute walk to either St James or the city centre. Both Woodbrook and St James are entirely safe for tourists and sufficiently far away from the more troublesome eastern suburbs to allow you to walk around at night quite happily.

Secondly, the rooms were large, clean, airy, the facilities were terrific, and the price per night was very, very reasonable when you consider some friends were foolish enough to stay at hotels in the city centre for nearly £200 a night!

Thirdly, on top of this the landlord Bill Dalton-Brown was simply incredible - a warm, generous man who insisted on cooking a monstrous breakfast each morning, drinking with us at night, hosting a mammoth rum-fuelled barbecue in our honour, and ferrying us all over the city! Bill was a mine of information on all things Trinidadian and one of those people you feel truly lucky to meet when travelling.

All in all, fantastic value for money and I really wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Trinidad. Highly, highly recommended.

“Delightful experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2008

We stayed at Nemoy Guest House in the summer and I only have good things to say about the place.

For starters, the location is ideal. In a city where you don’t want to be staying in the wrong area we felt completely at ease strolling around the pleasant streets of Woodbrook – ( a borough just off the main city centre, now emerging as one of the most desirable regions of the city, previously a residential only area now seeing some of the city’s hottest bars and restaurants along the main street, Ariapita)
Nemoy is on a quiet backstreet just off Ariapita so the bars and restaurants are only a short walk away – Satchmo’s Jazz restaurant & bar is perhaps the coolest joint in town with live music most nights and great steak seafood menu and cocktails served by hot jazzcat waitresses. The street caters for all tastes from local budget takeaway shops of spicy jerk and rice n pea, family run Trini restaurants like Veni Mange where big smiles and big hospitality accompany a fine intro to local cuisine and ‘liming’ at Crobar’s outdoor bar you’ll be unlucky not to bump in to Port of Spain celebs such as Brian Lara. (We didn't but were assured he is a regular!)
Nemoy to Lords test cricket ground is a 10 minute suburban saunter. (Great English style pub at the ground called 'Bat & Ball'!)

The guesthouse itself is clean, comfortable and run by the charismatic Bill Dalton Brown, who is reason alone to stay here. This ebullient entertainer could not do enough to make sure we had everything we needed - great breakfasts of fruits, eggs, bacon, coffee, juice – the works! and he’s the most interesting fellow you’ll meet in a long time whether you want to talk sport, politics or just listen to his amusing tales and comedic banter.
Our room was spotless and cleaned daily. It had double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower. Don’t get me wrong, this place is not posh – if that’s what you’re after then go for one of the big hotels (Hilton etc) though there you will pay much more, have poor location and miss out on the personal charm that this little gem has to offer!
