La Belle Maison is a large, immaculate family home in the Northern range hills. Our room was a good size with comfy bed and lots of cupboard space. We had our own bathroom right next door with access from the corridor. Breakfast was good - Toast, eggs, fruit from the garden. There is a living room with TV and a spacious verandah for watching the birds or relaxing with the view. The owners, Merle & Irwin are very accommodating and genuinely want to make you enjoy your stay. They helped us find our feet & organised trips for us. They have an excellent knowledge of Trinidad - things to see, culture, politics, what's going on, etc.
It is a bit off the beaten track - a few miles from the EMR and it is much easier with your own transport -although we managed without. It is nowhere near a beach.
We paid USD 70/night. I really enjoyed it here, made all the better by the kind hospitality.
I can recommend a trip with Caribbean Discovery Tours. The owner, Stephen Broadbridge is knowledgeable and reliable, has decent gear and knows what he is doing. We went to Tamana Bat Caves, which I really enjoyed. Merle has his phone no. Note that some areas in Trinidad are restricted and it is illegal to go there without a permit - hence the need for a reliable, registered guide.
