“hotel in need of help”

i work almost every day, so it was a rare occasion that my wife and i got to take a get away especially on a monday. To start of this day we were greated by the most unfriendly person in the world at the front desk who had the nerve to ask us if we brought our own towels( imagine that ). The room door was sticking and had no security lock and parts of the door was rotted. The room had a old musty stale smell. The bathroom sink was leaking and there was a brown water leaking under the the cupboard which was screwed shut no it was of no use. However the toilet and shower were clean and there was hot water thank God.The room itself consisted of two standard size beds thats it. No chairs no table no couch no kitchen facility not even clothes hangers in the built in closet. For $550.00 ttd per nite at least a clothes hanger would be nice. Now most important u would think a hotel would have pillows on the beds well think again There was a poor excuse for what they called a pillow on the bed. It was like a slim piece of some undescribeable stiff material the caused my wife and I to experiance the most uncomfortable nite sleep in our life. On the positive side the guy at the front desk at niteshift was very polite and helpful and the girl who cooked and served us dinner was also pleasent and courteous. The aircondition worked very good so $550.00 is what it costs for a room with nothing but hot/cold water and good working aircondition. Next morning and i mean at about 4:00 am it was the disturbing sounds of creatures fighting and scraping at the ceiling above our heads the woke us. Breakfast was nice and the lady who served us was cheerful. The front desk girl next morning was also very pleasent and cheerful not like the grumpy lady who we met on arrival. This place is situaded in such a marveleous location so here is a word of advice retrain the grumpy lady upgrade the facilities a fridge microwave and a tv maybe be a welcome addition to some of the rooms.
Till then we wil not be returning or reccomending this establishment to any one any where

“rotten wood, dated sink, toilet, dated shower, no tv, more like 1or 2 star”

The pictures looks very nice on the internet but its a joke...We booked two rooms and these are the positves....good view of the beach, two beds in each rooms...lovely lady who served breakfast.
The negatives, where do i begin! Over priced, girl at the reception desk unfriendly, and the room, my god, sinks, doors, toilet, shower, balcony all outdated. There are no tv, no coffee making facility, Food is very expensive. We could see rotten wood in the sink area...the rooms was like a joke...im not sure how this is a 3 star. You can hear rats making noise in the night on the roof but they didnt get in thank god!If you thinking of staying here dont..its better to find somewhre in pos and drive to the beach..The owners need to fix their hotel. If they did you would probably find more people staying here and returning.

“Basic, but has some benefits”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2010

This hotel is located adjacent to the beach, so the location is great.
The rooms are basic, some furniture is broken and the compound is generally not very luxurious or modernised . There is serious need for upgrades. There are no televisions, radios, telephones or even clocks in the rooms.

The rooms are however, thankfully, air-conditioned. If you wish to view television, you can do so in a small common room (not air-conditioned).

Also, if you are not a fan of bugs, insects, cockroaches, lizards - and I mean huge ones, this is probably not a great place for your stay.

There was a plus however, since there is an air-conditioned bar located near the lobby area. There are no pool tables or even cocktails served though. You can however, invite your friends (not registered guests at the hotel) to join you at the bar and bring over your bake and shark to have here.

There is an open air restaurant also, where you are required to order your meals from the reasonably priced menu, about 30 minutes prior to receiving your meal. The staff requests this since they do not have anything prepared due to generally slow business conditions. The meals are tasty and enjoyable. The staff if friendly and helpful as well.

Breakfast: free continental (toast, jam, tea, juice) and for purchase: eggs, bacon.
Lunch: sandwiches, fries, salads.
Dinner: soups, pastas, rice, potatoes, shrimp, fish, chicken, lamb, etc

I would recommend this hotel for a one night stay as it is a convenient way to get cleaned up after the beach. It is also suitable for a short weekend stay with friends, but nothing much more.

“WORST HOTEL I EVER STAYED IN”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

This Hotel was the worst. Continental breakfast consisted of bread, butter, jam and tea/coffee. The Morning staff was great though and so was the evening staff especially the cute bartender. With that being said, the rooms are a total mess. You can hear bats flying in the rooms. The scent of the rooms is just horrible. The furniture was very old and termite infested. There was also roaches. The manager seemed incompetent. He seemed as though he was clueless of how to run the hotel. We stayed there for three days and he was almost never there. The front desk staff literally was running the hotel. When we finally saw him to complain about the poor conditions at the hotel, he had no idea what to say and stood there as though he was a trainee. I don't blame the staff, they were great. The manager on the other hand needs to go. He is an embarrassment to the Maracas Bay Hotel and I personally believe is responsible for all the bad truthful reviews that the hotel gets.

“disappointing..can do so much better”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

Maracas Bay Hotel is located in a prime beach spot and the rooms offered a lovely ocean view. I didn’t expect a five star hotel experience but what I got was substandard.

The rooms were dreary, stuffy and smelled mildewed. The fixtures were poorly maintained, with holes in the counters and cabinets. The rooms were basic; they do not provide TV, radio, or a kitchenette. For the price they charge per night I think what they offer can be improved. It’s simply very uninviting.

At night the sound of the ocean is calming and relaxing. That feeling doesn’t last very long once the bats in the ceiling start to have their fun. The noise is unsettling and we had to turn on the air conditioning unit to drown out the sound.

The most upsetting incident occurred when my friend requested a small refrigerator to store her toddler’s food. It was not ready when we got there, and when they did deliver it to the room it was dirty and filled with cockroaches! This is completely unacceptable and added to the already lacking customer service experience.

Breakfast was simple, but good. The waitress was attentive, and she was the only pleasant staff we encountered. Maracas Bay Hotel left a lot to be desired. I won’t be going back and I will never recommend to my friends.
