To preface, my expectations for this property and for Mustique were high. Sadly, they were not met. We made a reservation for one of the deluxe rooms with a plunge pool. The room itself was disappointing. It felt small, not particularly luxurious, and the view was obscured by trees/shrubs. We barely used the plunge pool, as the view was poor and it didn't feel private. I delicately indicated that I wasn't jazzed about the room with the woman who helped us book our stay. No attempt was made to find a space that we were pleased with.
I also feel compelled to write that as a younger couple (early 30s), we felt somewhat out of place at this hotel. Most of the other individuals were much older and the environment felt stuffy. We were certainly not looking for a resort with an active nightlife, but the Cotton House felt overly sedate and staid. I'm only mentioning this because I wish I had known that the Cotton House is more appropriate for an older traveler.
The hotel property itself is nice, but random. The pool is in the middle of the resort (hidden away) and it felt overly warm given the temperature outside. The hotel beach is lackluster and there are jellyfish off the dock. We spent our days at the other island beaches instead.
Of note, after doing some research before the vacation, we recognized that the island would be an expensive place to visit. Unfortunately, it often felt prohibitively (and almost obnoxiously?) expensive everywhere you went. There was a charge for just about everything and the charges were significant.
Aside from the glorious island beaches (and they are lovely), there wasn't that much to do on the island itself. It would have been nice to see a small village cafe in order to enjoy a coffee in the morning by the water. There was nothing like that on the island, and I wish I had known that. Although we do have some fond memories of our visit, it simply was not for us.
