“Great Room”

We were in Jamaica for two weeks, but only stayed here for one week (May 19-26, 2011). Our great experience at this hotel was arriving to find a bottle of champagne iced down after going on an all day tour. It was compliments of hotel management and our travel agent (Cheryl with Custom Travel). It was a nice surprise!

Room: We stayed in the newer portion of the hotel in the plunge pool oceanfront one bedroom suite. This room has one heck of a "wow" factor. The room itself was huge! It had sliding glass doors in the bedroom and the living area that went outside to the plunge pool. The living room had a window with a view that was second to none. This window/wall was less than 2 feet from the actual beach!! The shower had 5 shower heads in it (never had a problem with water pressure). The plunge pool was great (just needed to be cleaned).

Restaurants: The beach terrace dining room was a buffet. It was what you would expect of an all-inclusive (average). Martino's was a little better and it was more formal. The service was excellent, but the food was average. Munasan was fun! This restaurant is a must do while your there. The chefs were very personable and comical. You will laugh until you cry at this place. The food was again...average. If you are going here for the food, you may want to try another resort.

Housekeeping: Was cleaned once a day. Very clean.

Bars: Never had to wait longer than 5 minutes for a drink at any bar. Grey Goose Martini's were fabulous! Try the Bob Marley. My wife swears it is the best drink she's ever had. They do not skimp on the alcohol at this place! I was pleasantly surprised.

Beach: The beach was beautiful!!! There were only a couple of days that the weather did not cooperate. (It's a tropical island. It is going to rain. Get a good room and grab some drinks.)

Not so good: 1) Food. Food. Food. 2) If you stay in a regular room, be prepared. These rooms are older and they show it. I was shocked after seeing our room. 3) Room service is restricted to continental breakfast in the morning. It would be lovely if you could order some kind of lunch or dinner later in the day (especially when its raining).

Overall, a nice place. Probably will not return. I like personal service and great food. We usually stay in hotels with a guest to staff ratio of 1:2 and personal service is paramount. If you want something at this resort, you need to ask. They will do anything you ask. But you will have to ask.

Room Tip: If you see it raining, go to the bar and order 6 or 7 drinks and take them back to the room. The rai...

“Jan 2012 vacation”

My girlfriend and I just returned from our vacation at Breezes Runaway Bay. The resort is very neat and clean. Our room was nice and clean. Our room faced the back of the resort so our view from our balcony was not very good, but that's the luck of the draw I guess. The ala carte dining was great. We loved the starlight grill and the japanese restaurant. The buffet was good, not great. The pools and the beach are clean and well maintained. Lots of activities to take part in if you are into that. I found the staff very friendly and helpful all week long. There were a few times over the week I found the bar staff a little slow keeping the drinks coming. I was a bartender for 17 years so I may be a little more critical in this area. Overall, it was a great vacation and we would go back to this resort.

“Breezes Runaway Bay Family Vacation 12/19/11-12/24/12”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This was our second family trip to Breezes Runaway Bay. Our first trip was 4 years ago. This time our two sons were 19 and 21 along with a 19 year old girlfriend. Our family of 4 also went to Breezes Negril the week before Christmas in 2010. Breezes Runaway Bay is vastly superior for families with teenagers or college students. There are many more activities and more young people to engage in activities like beach Olympics and volleyball. The rates at Breezes are generally very good and are a tremendous value for a family of teens/students. The buffet has definitely slipped in the four years since our last trip. However, the other restaurants were quite good and the service was always very good. We had a Verandah plunge pool room which we found to be worth the extra cost. The plunge pool was a little too cool for frequent use, but the larger private patio was very nice. The teens had the cheapest rooms. We requested the two rooms for the college kids be located close together. The resort was very accommodating on this request. It rained the first couple of days and the resort did a good job of keeping the entertainment going, lots of Bingo.
The beach itself is excellent. However, it was a little rough and the dive/snorkeling boats only went out a couple of times all week. The resort needs to do a better job of cleaning the beach. There was trash on the beach most of the time.
Overall, Breezes Runaway bay is a great resort for families with older teens or college age kids. I do not recommend it for the 14-16 year olds, even though they are welcome at the resort. It is up to the parents to police the drinking of those underage, the resort pretty much serves everyone that is staying.
My only complaint with this resort is the day pass issue. Several times each week there is a large infusion of Jamaican residents that hold events or purchase day passes at the resort. I have no issues with the locals at the resort, my complaint is the sheer number of guests. On two days the line at the jerk pit was completely unbearable. The day passers were lined up 40 deep with only 3-4 of the regular guests in line. This basically makes the jerk pit unusable for the regular guests and it was during 11:30-12:00 timeframe when there was no other food available at the resort. This will not stop me from returning, but it definitely makes me hesitant to recommend this resort to others. When the resort intentionally creates a situation at an all-inclusive resort where there is no food available to the guests, this is a problem that needs attention.

Room Tip: If you plan to go to bed before 11 pm, definitely ask for a room in a quieter part of the resort.

The resort was decently kept. The grounds could have used some work and the food...well thats where you could tell what star rating it was.
Im a 5 star person and had hopes this would fit the bill.
The biggest let down were the employees. At the sandals resorts Ive been too....the employee made the huge difference. Everyday you would walk out they would great you and make you feel like you were the only one. NOT HERE. Only a select few speak.
I give this place a 6

Room Tip: if you have a family that you want to hang out with alot. Get the adjoining room 2135 2137

“Needs updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Stayed here March 2011 with 2 other couples, requested our rooms together as it was the other 4 ppl's first time in Jamaica. We were spread out as far apart as possible, when asked to be moved told they were full. Our room was "old" and musty and the chairs had mold on them, went straight back to the desk to request any other room as i didnt' even want to unpack my suitcase, told the hotel was full to check back in the morning. They moved us 2 doors down in the afternoon the next day. It was the same room without the mold.

The food was good, the beach was small but nice, and we like a smaller resort so we liked the lay out of the place but it is really really dated, could be a beautiful place if they just spent a bit of money updated the rooms and lobby.

Not going back as we have stayed at nicer places in Jamaica. Like the Iberostar Rose Hall and Grand Bahia Prinicipia

Room Tip: Demand a upper floor as security walks past your patio door every 20 min and can look right inside!!
