“The best staff ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We rented one of the cottages with another couple for 6 nights starting in late January. From the moment we arrived everyone, Moganna, Richard, Donna, Cliff the bartender,Shakey the gardener, all made us feel so very very welcome. Mogonna is one of the happiest people I've ever met, it seems like the staff respects her and she helped us with whatever we needed. Including a fantastic massage in an oceanfront cave. Richard took happiness lessons from Moganna and was always ready and willing to take us (and pick up!) from wherever our Negril wanderings took us. He took us to the Hi-Lo one day, but the fruit selection wasn't very good so he took us to a little local fruit market. The cottage itself was quite nice the only thing I would say is if you're a light sleeper bring earplugs. The property itself is very quiet but the early morning birds start their song early.

Room Tip: Get one near the back away from the road

“Paradise in a little cottage!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Paradise in a little cottage that's all I can say. We only stayed for a couple of nights before new year before moving on after being bumped from the overbooked catcha fallin star (sister property in west end). From the moment we arrived until we left it was like being with friends everyone from Mogonna the manager ,the security guys, the cleaners, the groundsman , they are stop for a natter and to say hello. Such lovely friendly people. We stayed in number 3 and the cottage itself is nicely decorated and clean. The bathroom towel rail was a bit wobbly and the tap needed some TLC but they are not 'brand new' buidlings either so what you can expect a few niggles. We mentioned this and within 5 minutes they had fixupitgood !! Besides the cottages are set in the most beautiful grounds (its like a little jungle). The pool with the waterfall is very nice but cold and. Didn't fancy the hottub at any point so can't comment on that.
At night it can be a little noisy at the front of the property with the noise from the LTU pub across the road but after a day in the sun you will soon doze off. Everyone mentions the 'cave' and this is the 'villa sur mer crown! Pop down the stairs from the car park , walk under the road and emerge into a seaside cove of great beauty. We snorkelled here everyday for a morning swim but close to the coast there isn't a whole lot to see. I think that one would need to get a boat to somewhere a little off coast to see coral etc... Overall had a wonderful relaxed stay here and it was shame to leave....

“Seaside Villa- WOW”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

i cannot begin to describe how happy i was by staying at this Villa. We went for a wedding and part of the party rented the seaside villa. The staff is amazing and really made our stay.

The villa is 6 rooms and 6 bathrooms and a shared kitchen, living room and pool area. This place is perfect for a group of friends who are going on vacation. Someone from our party went grocery shopping and we had a Chef cook for us when we wished.

Waking up to the smell of bacon will put anyone in a good mood. But when you arrive to the table, you see a platter of fresh fruit, banana pancakes, eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage, toast. Their chef for the villa was amazing! I was always very happy with everything we ate. We had chicken curry one night and wow! I never thought something so yellow could taste so AMAZING! Plus, it was great the next day!

Richard is one of the workers, he was great! He would take us to the hi-low mall and would wait untill we were done shopping and bring us home. He brought us to many different resturants and would always come pick us up. He made getting around an unfarmiliar city very easy.

Magonna, well, she saved me from a jelly fish. We had all gone snorkling in the little cove (down a flight of stairs from the villa) and i got stung by a jelly fish. She came back and checked on me multiple times.

Cliff, was our bartender for the wedding, he would check up on us to see if we needed anything. He was very attentitve and friendly. He offered to take us on a tour, but with people leaving we just weren't able to.

Villa sur Mer, has an amazing staff and highly exceded any expectation i had. Waking up and opening the balcony doors to an amazing view... oh and the smell of bacon is probably my favorite part of the villa. The staff is great! I wish we could have stayed longer... This place is a place we will be returning to!!

oh, and they have security walk around the grounds and check on things day and night!

“Villas Sur Mer - Simply Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I arrived at VSM on Xmas Eve and stayed through New Years. It exceeded all of my expectations. The level of service is second to none. I have stayed at properties (hotels, and villas) all over the world and NONE can compare to my experience at VSM. Let me start off by saying that the grounds are beautiful and the villas are nicely appointed. Peter the owner was always available via email or by telephone regarding any questions I had prior to my arrival and I had many. However, it is the staff that make this property a cut above the rest. The grounds keeper Richard is the true gem of the property. His knowledge of the island, willingness to accommodate any request (no matter how small) and sheer infectious smile and personality made our trip special. Our housekeeper Carol was lovely and it is clear that Magonna runs a very professional operation in addition to being the sweetest person ever! I have been to Jamaica many times. I’ve stayed at the Half Moon, Grand Lido, Swept Away, Sandals and Tensing Pen. None of these places compare to this property. I will return to Jamaica again and again and VSM will be my 1st and only choice.

Pros: Staff, Location, Atmosphere
Cons: None

“A detailed Review of Paradise & Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

Hello Fellow Travellers,

The following is a detailed review of my stay at Negril's Villas Sur Mer from November 21-November 28th, 2011.

About the travellers:
Group of about 20 young adults ranging from 21yrs-33yrs of age.

Reason for travelling here:
Wedding

Stayed in/visisted friends in:

Villa #3- 3 Bedroom Villa
Villa #6
Villa #2
Main Villa- Party House

Estimated from Airport: 2hrs or less depending on traffic
Cost from airport: $30USD-$40USD

This property has to be one of the most amazing I have ever seen, and I have been to over 31 Islands. Once you arrive it is as if you are in an African wilderness. The grounds are both well kept as well as well secured. There is constant security guards on duty, whom also double as your cab drivers, and jack-of-all trades.

There is an underground cave that you can walk down which is very romantic at night and the perfect spot for a proposal [hint hint...] The smaller villas have a pool lounging section which offers oversized rocking chairs/sun lougners, as well as a 12 person hot tub, and a pool with waterfall.

The main villa or party house has a smaller hot tube (four-six person) as well as a smaller inground pool. The main villa has ocean access which is very safe, and swimable. The other smaller villas offer ocean access through the underground cave. For those indivdiuals whom love the beach, Richard (the best taxi/security guard guy) can drive you there no problems for about $20.00USD return trip. He is always on time and looks out of those people staying at the Villa.

FOOD: This is one of the biggest concerns staying at a non-all inclusive. However, the villas are equipped with cooking supplies so all one has to do is visit or send for groceries and then food is no longer an issue. Otherwise, you can eat all meals at the LTU Resturant located directly across from the smaller villas and beside the party villa. This place is a bit pricy given your expecting to pay local prices. The menu is in USD and dinners range from $65.00 for a couple with one drink each, with breakfast being about $16.00 a couple. Otherwise, one can get food on the side of the road via random people selling cooked chicken or ask to be taken to other nearby resturants.

DRINKS: The villa staff can make BEER and MIXER runs for you to the whole sale place for about $30.00 for 24 RED STRIPES.

NIGHTLIFE: Around the Villa's there isn't an officall disco, the LTU has Pull Up Friday's which is more comical than anything else, a wide array of straglers attend.
Otherwise, a club in town called THE JUNGLE is great. It plays mainstream urban music, Top 40, Reggea, Soca, etc. It has three different floors, drinks are around $3.00 USD and Richard can take you there, wait there with you, or come back for you. Again always on time and looking for you. There wasn't any problems at the group, although it could be intimading to first time travellers on an Island.

NEGATIVES: The Hot tub was never acutally "hot", and it appeared to be "dirty" although the staff said it was always cloudy...
Also, the pool is NOT HEATED so it can be cold at night, otherwise everything is fantastic.

MUST BRING!: BUG SPRAY/ AFTER BITE/ CALAMINE LOTION, if your like me and mosquito's love you then make sure you travel with bug stuff as the bugs are mighty hungry, but hey, its so worth the bug issue as its an African wilderness what else does one expect.

MONEY: On average, you will need about $100.00USD-$150.00USD a day to have a comfortable time at this resort, all depending if you intend on grocery shopping or going out to eat. Personally, I think that going out to eat is more worth it, as the groceries are quite expensive.
- Bring BOTH USD and JAMAICAN MONEy
- All places accept both, however, when dealing with locals Jamaican money is better as you don't need to make the conversion etc, and its gets confusing.

Right now for CND and USD its about: 1000 Jamaican Dollars is $12.00 USD approx.
500 Jamacian Dollars is $6.00 USD approx.
100 Jamaican Dollars is $1.25 USD approx.

Have a great time, and please look out for Richard and Janet, the best dynamic duo looking out for all of your needs (Janet even sewed my boyfriends pants! now that is service!)
