We did our homework before we booked this Resort for our first time in Jamaica. We chose Legends for price and location and we booked beach side and king bed. When we arrived, we were greeted by Rianna at reception, who informed us that our reservation had been lost, but she found it again, funny girl! Turned out she was very friendly and efficient, took good care of us. We did not expect luxury, but found large clean room, hot water, working AC, clean towels daily, good bed. The best feature is the beach, very clean water and safe for all ages.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful, they treat you as you treat them - with respect. Of course they also like your tips.
The food was not elaborate, but very good and even after 2 weeks there were new things on the menu. Big Mama knows how to dish it out, her spoonfuls are FULL and she goes the extra mile to please you. All fruit and vegetables are grown locally, there was fresh fish every day and usually 2 other kinds of meat. We also got addicted to the Red Label house wine, it has a sweet sherry taste. The bar is open from 10-10 and the coffee is also very good!
Michael makes sure there are plenty of chairs on the beach and he is an expert on placing umbrella's in the sand, so you don't get sunburned. When we were away and got rained on, he made sure everyones towels and bags were saved a few times, thanks Michael! We all appreciated how he protects us from over-enthousiastic peddlers on the beach.
You need to take a snorkeling trip to the island nearby and include the lobster lunch, to us this was a perfect day. Another day trip we did was to YS falls, black river boat trip and the Appleton rum factory. It makes for a long, but very satisfying day and it is nice to see the country side. We booked this at Legends and it included lunch, for $ 125 p.p.
We felt that Negril has lots of Jamaican flavor, we also liked the added bonus of going to Samsara - Legends' sister resort. There is no beach, but you can jump off the rocks (or enter the water by ladder) and do some snorkeling. They also have 2 pools and it is much quieter there if you need a break from the busy beach.
A free shuttle takes you there and back, you can also go for dinner. Rick's cafe is also worth visiting, you can see daring cliff divers and have a drink at the bar.
We felt very safe on the beach at all times, there are many ganga sellers for the tourists who like to buy it....but they respect a NO MON! with a smile.
We enjoyed the whole experience, thanks Jamaicans, ONE LOVE!
Room Tip: Rooms at garden side are quieter, there is always someone to help you cross the road. Beach side is...
