“Beautiful Beach; Overall great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

It had been five years since staying at this hotel, and it had been completely remodled. The resort is very attractive and has a great beach. it is a gradual shallow beach that has crystal clear water and little wave action. Has some shade from trees, but no other shade options.
The first night dinner was unlimited lobster, but then after that it was ok to good. They were full and seemed to run out of things like lettuce. Best food bet is jerked chicken from the beach grill for being great each day. The specality resturants were difficult to get into.
Room service was very limited and just fair. Snack options were poor from the menu.
Drinks were high quality. No funny brands and all the options inclluding exotic tropical drinks.
Could not get rooms towels and wash cloths because they were out twice?
Internet service is very poor, and only available in the lobby.
The gym is very limited and small.
Staff overall were nice and friendly. The pool bar staff were great; and friendly to everone I saw served.
The reggae and other beach entertainers were great, but the hotel could get better control from the guy's selling rolling papers, and something for the papers. We saw them stealing food and drinks from the hotel after bugging people for them...made you concerned to leave much out on the beach.
Overall a great vacation. Hotel is a great value; but not at the same level as the Couple's resorts we have stayed at in service and food quality.

Room Tip: Make sure to reserve an ocean view room. Some rooms are close to the road and have heavy trafic noi...

“Great vacation but beware of scam with jetski rentals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Travelled from feb 4-11 for a destination wedding. My wife and 17 month old son had a great stay. Food was great, beach was fantastic and the staff were extremely polite. My only complaint was with a man on the beach named Kenny who was representing scuba caribe where u cN rent jetskis, scubadive etc. I made arrangements with Kenny to rent two jetskis for one hour each and before we took off, they told my father and I that they would simply wave us in once our hour was up. Well we were waved in after 29 mins of ridding, and we complained to the staff that our ride was only a half hour and we paid for an hour. They responded with " no man, u were out for your time". We knew we weren't going to win this battle so we left upset. Kenny never strolled our section of the beach for 2 days. I believe he knew he was wrong. The day before we left Kenny came to appologize and said that his guy told him we had 45 mins, so still even at 45 mins we were still short our full hour. I'm only venting here for others to be aware that it's your word against theirs and guess what.... Odds are u won't win. Anyone wanting to rent a jetski please make sure you wear a watch and confirm with the rental staff what time it is so you don't get screwed like we did. I told Kenny I would let everyone on tripadvisor that I would complain about my experience with them and I don't think Kenny liked that to much but this is a lesson on how not to conduct business especially with tourists spending their hard earned dollars in a foreifgn country. The rest of my vacation was superb and I would return again. Hope this review helps and provides a little caution to those wishing to have a little fun on the ocean.

“visited local school was best part of trip”

The riu palace is one of the better resorts in Negril. (compared to the other riu in negril) The rooms tend to smell like mold if you don't run the air conditioner. If you want good service....tip the staff. The hotel had some sewage problems, our toilets didn't work for 4 days out of the 7 that we were there.
As for the food, The jerk hut is fresh and tastes like BBQ chicken....ALthough not the real authentic Jerk chicken. A restaurant called 3 dives has the best and real Jerk chicken in negril.
The best part of the trip was meeting our driver Clive from "Clive G Exursion". He took us to visit a local school, local restaurant and tour the country side. Clive gave us the opportunity to visit the "real jamaica" and come home with a real appreciation for the culture and its people.

I would highly recommend Clive for any excursions. ([--]) Again this was the best part of our trip!!!

On our next trip to Negril we will not stay at the Riu...our destination...The rock hotel. Breathtaking!!

“Vacation 2012”

My husband I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Negril to Riu Palace Tropical
Bay. We were there for two weeks and enjoyed it tremendously. The staff were friendly,
the food was great with something for everyone.
The weather was wonderful with a few showers nothing to keep us out off the ocean, The ocean bottom is sandy and clean. There were local musicians that provided entertainment and sometimes comic relief to those on the beach
The only a la carte restaurant we didn't go to was the Japanese, the other three we went to were excellent.
On the two Sundays we were there we attended Mass at Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church. The masses are on Saturday at 5.00pm and Sunday at 10.00 a.m. we thoroughly enjoyed it and the atmosphere was tremendous. Father Jim has a wonderful way of drawing the people in.The whole experience was uplifting and worth repeating.
While we were there we had Michael and Tony as our Taxi drivers on various excursions into Negril, both were very courteous and helpful ad we recommend them highly
We will definitely come back

“girls winter getaway”

Just traveled to riu palace tropical bay with 10 girlfriends. We had a great trip. The rooms were fine, nothing fancy, but clean and large. The beach and water were perfect. Clean beach, warm and turquoise water. Traveling reggae "bands" were a lot of fun. The food was very good. Steamed milk in the coffee was a big hit, the drinks were plentiful, and not watered down. The restaurants were all good, and the open air resort is beautiful. The Italian and Japanese my favorite. This is a low key resort, where the night is over by midnight, or 1am, but the staff were accommodating and the vibe was awesome. We loved our quick three night trip!
