It’s difficult to describe the beauty, tranquility and hospitality we experienced at the Windrush Bed & Breakfast nestled on the coastline in Negril, Jamaica.
My wife and I spent a week in Montego Bay at an elegant hotel for a business meeting and decided to spend an additional week in Jamaica before returning home to the cold Vermont winter. We could not have made a better choice for a place to stay than the Windrush Bed & Breakfast! What a find!
As promised, Doug Downes, the owner/host of the Windrush picked us up at our hotel for the ride to Negril. It was obvious Doug knew the Island well as he pointed out areas of interest and local history, as well what to expect during our stay at his lovely Bed & Breakfast.
Upon arrival we were stunned at the wonderful private location and the natural beauty of the seascape as well as the uniqueness of the “Bamboo House” that was to be our home for the next several days. Doug knows how to run a vacation rental bed and breakfast and showed us the truly magical property that includes an amazing sea pool, regular pool, seaside cabana and an authentic, regulation Bocce ball court. Frankly, it was like being at a secluded island with all the amenities, with no one else around!
The following morning we were greeted with coffee already made and the first of many wonderful meals prepared and served by Doug. He combines local in season fare, with just about anything you might want specially prepared. We took many of his suggestions and were very pleased with every meal Doug served. Doug knows what he is doing in his unique outdoor kitchen. His specialty meals are even the favorite of many locals! You will not be disappointed with the “breakfast” part of the Windrush Bed & Breakfast. In addition we enjoyed several dinners prepared by Doug and each was unique and better than any others we experienced on the Island.
Although Doug resides in the main home on the property, he basically is invisible unless you need something. His hospitality is second to none and provided us with everything from transportation to homemade ice cream!
During our stay, we visited Negril Beach and even other resorts, but nothing compared to the Windrush Bed & Breakfast in terms of beauty, tranquility and relaxation. We highly recommend Doug’s property for those who want a truly unique Jamaican experience! Last but not least, if you haven’t played Bocce Ball before, you will love the game by the time you have to leave the Windrush. Doug will let you win a few games!
