“The Windrush Bed & Breakfast is truly magnificent ! - Negil, Jamaica”

February, 2011

It’s difficult to describe the beauty, tranquility and hospitality we experienced at the Windrush Bed & Breakfast nestled on the coastline in Negril, Jamaica.

My wife and I spent a week in Montego Bay at an elegant hotel for a business meeting and decided to spend an additional week in Jamaica before returning home to the cold Vermont winter. We could not have made a better choice for a place to stay than the Windrush Bed & Breakfast! What a find!

As promised, Doug Downes, the owner/host of the Windrush picked us up at our hotel for the ride to Negril. It was obvious Doug knew the Island well as he pointed out areas of interest and local history, as well what to expect during our stay at his lovely Bed & Breakfast.

Upon arrival we were stunned at the wonderful private location and the natural beauty of the seascape as well as the uniqueness of the “Bamboo House” that was to be our home for the next several days. Doug knows how to run a vacation rental bed and breakfast and showed us the truly magical property that includes an amazing sea pool, regular pool, seaside cabana and an authentic, regulation Bocce ball court. Frankly, it was like being at a secluded island with all the amenities, with no one else around!

The following morning we were greeted with coffee already made and the first of many wonderful meals prepared and served by Doug. He combines local in season fare, with just about anything you might want specially prepared. We took many of his suggestions and were very pleased with every meal Doug served. Doug knows what he is doing in his unique outdoor kitchen. His specialty meals are even the favorite of many locals! You will not be disappointed with the “breakfast” part of the Windrush Bed & Breakfast. In addition we enjoyed several dinners prepared by Doug and each was unique and better than any others we experienced on the Island.

Although Doug resides in the main home on the property, he basically is invisible unless you need something. His hospitality is second to none and provided us with everything from transportation to homemade ice cream!

During our stay, we visited Negril Beach and even other resorts, but nothing compared to the Windrush Bed & Breakfast in terms of beauty, tranquility and relaxation. We highly recommend Doug’s property for those who want a truly unique Jamaican experience! Last but not least, if you haven’t played Bocce Ball before, you will love the game by the time you have to leave the Windrush. Doug will let you win a few games!

“What a great find!”

We found Windrush almost by accident, but are we ever glad we did. This place is just wonderful, and it has to be as close to paradise as we could find. Now if you're looking for wild night life and being around lots of loud people, this is definitely not the place for you. Doug is the owner/operator of this small B&B and he is a most hospitable host. From driving the shuttle to keeping us well fed, Doug came through as a most gracious host.

Doug cooks and makes all the drinks. He makes a great goat cheese & arugula pizza! Doug will cook or bring you a drink whenever you ask for it, and most times you won't have to even ask.

This place is very private, and you do what you want to do. Relax in the hammocks next to the fresh water swimming pool, or play a game of bacci, or take a dip (skinny dip if you feel like it) in the salt water pool that is carved out of the stone cliff and let the waves crash over you. Or maybe the best choice is to do nothing at all, and that is very easy here.

There are 2 BR. One is on ground level of main house, and second is in separate house located adjacent to the main house. Both units have king bed and private bath.

This place is peaceful, restful, and just a dream experience. Send me a note if you want some photos!

I will be planning a trip back here very soon!

“A LITTLE TASTE of PARADISE”

If you are looking for a place far away from the stresses of everyday life and would like to relax and have everything you need .................You need ti visit Windrush Bed & Breakfast in Negril, Jamaica.
Everything you could possibly want or need is found right on the property and your host/owner is always available. The food is exquisite, seriously something different always. If you should decide to stay on the prperty and have your food prepared in the outside kitchen there is of course a small fee. Well worth it and you have the incredible atmosphere. A glass of wine as you stand orsit on the upper deck of the main house looking to your right the magnificent sunsets. Fire red, oranges and black clouds as the sun disappears in the sky. Shortly after you look to your left and the full moon is rising in a star filled sky. Words cannot describe adequately how magnificent this experience is.
We had the opportunity to stay in the Bamboo Hut, king sixe bed draped in a sheer white material , an extra bedroom with a single bed and a full bath . Beautiful hardwood floors exceptionally clean and very cozy and inviting. Mornings were sometimes filled with a cup of coffe and then a walk around the property admiring the flowering cacti, hummingbirds and the meticulous landscaping..
After breakfast you walk thre walk down to the salt water pool.................if you can belive this an inground pool in the ocean !! Constantly filled with salt water and small fish from the crashing waves from the ocean filling the pool.
After leaving the amazing salt water pool you saunter up the walk to the fresh water pool. Jump in and enjoy.Enough of the pool? Walk up the stairs to an open hut ,relax on the couch or the hammock and rest.\
Next we have the owner/host coming down from the main house with nice bottle of wine ,cheese crackers, etc (for a small fee) . Soft Jamaican music music fills the air.
If you should decide to stay on the property and have your host prepare dinner, you have made an excellent decision!!!
While your host works his magic in the outdoor kitchen you relax on the upperdeck of the main house with a glass of wine.
While your dinner is being prepared you look off to your right and watch the incredible sunset. Fire reds, oranges and black clouds slide right off the edge of the earth. Shortly after ,look to your left and watch as the full moon slowly rises to a star filled sky. Mesmerizing to say the least and certainly unbelievable until you have seen it for yourself.
After dinner ,sit and relax enjoy the atmosphere ,listen to the waves crashing in the distance.
Now, off to the Bocci Court. Open 24/7 !!!!!! A fun filled night often lasting into the wee hours of the morning
You decide to retire ,laying on your bed slight breeze with only the sounds of the waves crashing. Off t sleep only to wake to another absolutely beautiful day to do as you please.
I'm already planning a trip very soon and this time I will bring some of my close friends to share in the magnificence of Windrush B&B n a very private place on the island of Jamaica.
I certainly hope anyone reading this and is planning a trip you will consider Windrush B&B.
Peace synonymous with Windrush.
NOW, OFF TO BED ONLY TO WAKE TO A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.
I AM ALREADY PLANNING A TRIP SHORTLY WUITH SOME OF MY CLOSE FRIENDS.
THE CLOSEST YOU WILL EVER GET TO UTOPIA................WINDRUSH BED & BREAKFAST IN NEGRIL JAMAICA. MUST BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED.

You are staying at a friends home! Be prepared to relax and be pampered, Postcard beauty with warm and delightful people.

The food was outstanding, abundant and an excellent value. Meals were better than any resturant in Negril. Don't miss Doug's secret sauce and his HMI (homemade ice cream).

We can not wait to return....or we would love to host him in our home...but he would have to make his fries

“I absolutely hated leaving and I'm dying to go back!”

Absolutely love the place. Going back in Feb 2010. If you like bocce your going to love the 24/7 secluded court with lighting that allows you to play until the sun comes up. The sea pool was the most exciting pool I have ever been in! It makes the fresh water pool boring. The perfect place to relax, forget and get away from reality. If you like sunsets - watch out!
