We just returned from a week at CocoLaPalm in Negril. We had a fantastic time. The resort is relatively small (75 rooms) and very, very friendly. The staff never passes you by without a kind word. We chose a "Deluxe" Room and it was near the pool and 30 seconds from the beach which was a perfect location! The room as very nice and clean --It had a king bed, refrigerator, table, etc. -- All we needed. The Air conditioning is great. We had heard some resorts don't have screens but be assured CocoLaPalm does. We will definitely return to this resort!
We had so much fun exploring different restaurants and trying local foods. Jerk Chicken across the street at "Best of the West" is great. Or, if you want to explore the west end try it at 3 Dives--more spicy but really good. Also found the next door restaurants -- Sun Beach and Idle Awhile--had very good food. My husband had Snapper at both places and it was super. Idle Awhile's serving was smaller than Sun Beach but both were good. Prices were all in the $15.00 range at the local places, except for daGeno's. daGeno's is an Italian Restaurant at Mariposa Resort a short distance west of CocoLaPalm. We had Lobster Linguini for about $22.00 and it was great.
We took a cab (about $25.00 round trip) to the West end one night. We were dropped off at Ivan's and had a couple of beers there. It is a fun place to go. We opted not to eat at Catch a Falling Star as the prices are quite high. However, it is a neat place and would recommend at least stopping there. I heard the food is very good. From Ivan's we walked to Rick's for a beer (another cool place but were told the food is average at best) and then to LTU. The only problem at the West end is that the streets are very narrow so walking from one place to the other can be a bit challenging. We chose to take a cab back to 3 Dives, where we ate supper.
Breakfasts at CocoLaPalm are a great deal and very, very good! My husband had the local dish, Ackee and Saltfish, two times and really enjoyed it. He also had the steamed snapper and really liked that also. They also have more american breakfasts which were really good also. All breakfasts are served with juice and coffee.
If you like Spinach be sure and try the Callaloo. It is a green leafy vegetable and really nummy!!
If you like Curry be warned that Jamaican Curry is not the same as Indian Curry---not in the least. It is okay, but not the usual curry.
One hint we were given there was to bring a small flashlight, which I would highly recommend. The beach is poorly lit, as are the beach restaurants so a flash light would have really been good to have.
If you choose to go to Negril and CocoLaPalm no doubt you will have a great time!!
