“Small and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Lovely hotel and convenient for the airport. The beach isn't great here-very small and little movement from the sea means that debris and seaweed tend to stick around the waters edge. Rooms are colonial in style, reminiscent of plantation houses. Most of the time, the staff are friendly and helpful although you do occasionally come across a grumpy waiter. It is fairly expensive to eat in the hotel but you're not far from local eateries.

Room Tip: Try and get either the main block or a sea view. Ground floor sea view rooms open onto the beach.

“Amazing - I want to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed at Coyaba for a week and loved absolutely everything about it. First impressions were fantastic, we were offered cocktails on checkin. We had a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the sea. The staff were friendly and always helpful. Great food. I wish I could go back.

“Quiet and relaxed hotel”

We arrived into Montego Bay on a late flight from Amsterdam so decided to opt for a hotel near the airport. We didn't want a huge all inclusive though so this was a good choice for us.
We stayed in total 3 nights in Feb 2012. The taxi from the airport was quick although costly (25 USD) for the distance.
We chose to stay in an Ocean view Junior Suite which was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The website offered a free night if staying for 3 or more nights and they honoured this. It was good to have a fridge and coffee making facilities in the room. Internet access was very good in the room itself. We stayed in 218 so not in the main building but nearer the beach. The only downside of the room was the size of the security box which was too small to fit in a laptop. It was big enough for an ipad though.
We decided not to take the all inclusive package as this looked to be expensive anyway (130 USD p.p.). We ate the most expensive breakfast (combo of fruit and jamaican for 20 USD each and also enjoyed dinners there and a few drinks). It would not have been cost effective for us to choose the all inclusive. I guess that you would need to eat lunch and drink plenty cocktails to make it worth while.
The staff in the bars and restaurants were pleasant and always happy to help. The food was good too. We especially enjoyed the jamaican dinner on Saturday evening with the steel band playing. There was a good happy hour on at the bar on Friday evening which allowed two drinks for the price of one and plenty of small nibbles to eat while listening to the jazz band.
The beach was clean and plenty loungers available. The weather wasn't great though (cloudy and windy most of the days) so we didn't try out the kayaks, snorkelling or pool but they looked good enough. What we did enjoy was sitting at the end of the pier in the evenings with a couple of beers. It was a peaceful quiet resort just what we wanted. The beach is private so one good thing is that you don't get disturbed by locals trying to sell you jewellery etc.
We did hire a car for the rest of our vacation and this was easy enough to pick up from the airport from the Coyaba. Driving is a bit different here and would only recommend it in the daylight as some of the roads have some huge potholes which you need to be careful of if you want to avoid a flat tyre. The drive from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios is easy as is mainly motorway and takes about 90 mins. Driving on from there is more of a challenge due to the roads. It took us 2 and a half hours to drive from Ocho Rios to Boston Bay (just east of Port Antonio). The further you go east though the more beautiful and dramatic the scenery is. Note that we did these drives as we were moving onto other hotels - we didn't do as day trips although you could quite easily do a day trip to Dunns River Falls which is on the west side of Ocho Rios.
The surrounding area around Coyaba didn't look very promising for restaurants and bars but since we were on a short stay it didn't make too much difference to us.
We did call into a supermarket for provisions at the Blue Diamond shopping centre which was 5 mins drive from Coyaba. It was also possible to find an ATM here near the petrol station opposite the shopping centre.
All in all a nice place to stay for a short visit. If staying longer then also look into dining options offered from some of the restaurants in Montego Bay as some offer free transport to and from your hotel which is much more cost effective than using the taxi's.

Room Tip: Try to choose a room nearer the beach as the hotel is close to a busy road.

“Amazing for families and events”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Attended a wedding last summer and was the first time I stayed at Coyaba having stayed at The Ritz-Carlton before for business. I have to say that I truly enjoyed the experience at Coyaba with my family because it felt more relaxed and I was not afraid that my kids would be disruptive to other guests. The staff was extremely friendly and we loved the food! We made to to make it to Tea every day and up to the Polo Lounge every evening when the kids went to bed. Could use a bit of updating and the fitness room is like a sauna on some days, but otherwise, excited to return on next trip to Jamaica

Room Tip: There is also a villa type of accommodations that the bride stayed in that we will look at for next...

“Comfortable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Everything here is top shelf. Very comfortable beds, nice baths, and excellent room service. Also, good TV and Selection of stations. Pool could have been larger, but was attractive. The restaurants were both very good. Nice to see a small boutique hotel such as this in Jamaica. The ownership appears to be "hands-on". Stayed here, maybe 8 visits over the years and found it consistent.
