Mount Edge conjures visions of a secret mountain get-away, nestled amongst coffee-plantations, rastafarian communes and accessed only by serpentine mountain roads. The reviews (both online and in-print), will make you drool over the Jamaican-High Mountain fusion cuisine that is farm-fresh and always beautifully prepared.
The fact of the matter is -- you must be high. The rooms are ramshackled sheds tied together by perilous concrete walkways and stairs that will, after your second or third rum-infused concoction, leave you vertigo and begging for stable, solid ground.
Don't get me wrong....the place is "cute" and "magical" for those raggamuffins looking to get away from the stresses of life. The owners, Michael and Robyn - are wonderful people with big hearts and a willingness to help you find whatever experience you are looking for. They will always...always...point you in the right direction. However, the rooms are very, very basic and the food is, well, disappointing like a rainy day birthday at the park. Canned beans, a couple limp, over-brined veggies and a cup of rice for $10 per person? Jah have mercy on mi soul!
That said, here is what you shouldn't miss in the area:
Hiking the Holywell Park: two trails - waterfall (1hr) and loop trail (40min) - Park fee $200J
Enjoying a cup of Blue Mountain Coffee w/ Ms. Twyman. Buy a bag of coffee for $15.
Touring / walking a coffee estate w/ a local.
A stop to the local shops for a beer and a story: The Bubbles (uphill) or Red Light (Downhill)
Mount Edge: you have a wonderful thing going.. I hope you have not lost your compass or rudder. Maintain and improve what you have and focus on quality.
