I stayed here with a group of 20 other Americans for a Mission Trip from October 26, 2007 - November 2nd, 2007! Upon Arrival, it sure didn't seem like a mission trip at all! This gorgeous oceanfront beach property is one of the most beautiful I've ever visitied! It had some of the most amazing sunsets and views of the mountainous islands in the west, that I have ever seen! The building is a bit older, but the staff keeps in in tip top shap so it's as good as new! The grounds are well maintained by hand also (see the picture of the machetter kids!) The rooms are exceptional... each with its own large, oceanfront balcony, hot water, and cold A/C! (THE HOTEL DOES SHUT DOWN POWER DURING THE DAY THOUGH HOWEVER DUE TO THE FACT THAT EVERYTHING IS RAN OFF OF A GENERATOR! IT WAS FINE THOUGH... STILL PLENTY OF LIGHT AND COOL OCEAN BREEZES!) 3 delicious meals with drinks are also included for free during the stay! They have plenty of culligan water all over the place as well as coke products for free too! There really are soo many great things to say about this place! I know this review is very scattered with my thoughts, but this is the first time I've been inspired to write a review for someplace I've stayed! I HAVE TRAVELED TO NUMEROUS GORGEOUS ISLANDS ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND THIS PLACE DEFINITELY RANKS IN MY TOP 5 FOR NATURAL BEAUTY! I ALSO LIVE IN FLORIDA 10 MINUTES FROM THE OCEAN, SO IT'S NOT THAT I WAS ONLY HYPNOTISED DUE TO THE FACT THAT I WAS NEAR A BEACH! THIS HOTEL IS TRULY A REMARKABLE PROPERTY THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE! THIS HAS TO DEFINITELY BE ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO STAY IN HAITI, AND ESPECIALLY ONE OF THE SAFEST WITH THE UN STAYING AT THE PROPERTY AS WELL!!!!! Highly recommended!!! This review is coming from the heart and experience. My husband and I got married last February, we stayed at this Hotel for a week the service was unbelievable, I mean the people over there were so nice they treated us like Queen and King; I was amazed because I never really get to visit any special beaches in Haiti like this one. Take this from me guys; “ Go and see Heaven at Le Xaragua”

We spent a weekend at the Xaragua March 2005, as a retreat from a missions work team in Port au Prince. The pictures of the exterior are beautiful, but times have changed in Haiti since the 2000 review. The hotel is almost a ghost town, a few Haitians, some UN soldiers and the rare team like ours. Often the hotel is empty. The rooms have deteriorated from what they probably once were. ie. no light in the bathroom, boxspring sitting right on the floor (no bed frame), no chair in the room. There were exactly three lounge chairs outside. The pool was well maintained and the beach area clean. Vendors on the property are persistent in trying to sell you their crafts and souvenirs. Haitian food served outdoors buffet style, was nicely prepared and generally good. Overall, we had a pleasant retreat weekend in a hotel resort that has hit hard times.

I was in Haiti as an election observer during the 2000 elections and stayied for a couple of days at the Xaragua. The hotel is located app.100 kms from Port-au-Prince on the highway to Gonaives. Nice place to stay, located on the beach with a view of the island of Gonaives. Well kept rooms, swimming pool and a restaurant. No entertainment, probably risky to go to the nearby town of St. Marc after dark. As most places in Haiti outside the capital, lacking customers. Probably most suitable for a weekend or a seminar session.
