Karibe hotel was an unexpected gem in Port au Prince. Nestled in the more upscale community of Petionville, the hotel has a lot going for it. Rooms were well furnished complete with a flat screen tv, desk with a swivel chair and a safe that can actually accomodate a laptop. Internet service (included) was problem free. The bed was super comfy, on par with the heavenly bed. The food in the restaurant was consistently good but a little pricey and the meeting facilities were more than adequate. It has a great pool, lots of loungers and an awesome poolside bar. The service however was hit or miss. Sometimes, we waited too long to be acknowledged at the restaurant and when we ordered the food took over 30 minutes to come out. Other minor glitches, like having to seat ourselves or waiting too long for the check happened all too often. The guest hallways are tiled, and I woke every morning to the sound of housekeeping carts clanging along on the tile. I loved the gift shop! Lots of great, authentic Haitian souvenirs and art at a reasonable price. Overall, the hotel was the best I've encountered so far in Haiti. Now if they could just work on the service and carpet the hallways it would be a complete home run!
Room Tip: Ask for a king if you're traveling solo. They are in short supply.
