Gites de l'Habituee was one of the high points of an outstanding week we spent in Guadeloupe in December 2011. The accommodations and location are lovely – a few bungalows nestled in the rain forest on the east side of Basse-terre – and we were met by a warm welcome from our hostess Néli and her family. The bungalow had two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living/dining room and a full kitchen, as well as an enchanting porch. Although we were in amongst other bungalows, the trees and other foliage gave us all the privacy we wanted. The bungalow had a very open feel, with lots of windows that opened wide to allow the tropical breezes to blow through – there is no air conditioning but this wasn’t really an issue since it cooled off in the evening. Néli was very helpful in orienting us in Basse-terre (she speaks English) and stopped by from time to time with bowls of tropical fruit from her garden.
We will definitely go back to Gites de l'Habituee next time we travel to Guadeloupe.
