When I look at reviews my most important criteria is who is the person behind the review. Are they cyclical my nature, optimists, pessimists, older, younger etc.? Well- about me and my family- We stayed at the resort 2/1-2/8. I have 3 children ages 7,5,3. My experience with resorts is I have stayed at the best and the worst from The 4 Seasons in Maui to the Rodeway Inn in Central Pennsylvania. We are realists and easy going people who were looking for an overall nice resort but nothing extravangant. If the 4 Seasons is a 10 I give this a 7.0-7.5. The resort was very nice for the $.
Rooms- 3.5 out of 5 grade-nicely appointed rooms-Is their small chip in the furniture-yes, a nick in the wall-yes, are the pictures not perfectly straight-yes. We sleep in our rooms not live in them so they were fine.
Grounds-4 out of 5 grade-well manicured and maintained grounds. beautiful court yard between rooms and always being tended to. Resort was large and sprawled out so did not feel claustrophobic. 2 pools were very nice as well.
Food-3.5 out of 5 grade-Good food for an all inclusive. Breakfast and lunch was cafeteria/buffet setting with much to choose from including fresh all fruit smoothies, home made omelettes etc. Restaurants were decent. Keep in mind the food in the restaurants is the same type food in buffet area but with a nicer presentation. The restaurants offer a nice change from the buffet where you feel like cattle racing for food.
Staff-4.0 out of 5.0- Donincan people are very proud/happy/confidant people-wait staff in buffet was phenomenal. We tipped $4-$5.00 after breakfast each day and they treated you like royalty each morning with mamosa's, Bailys Irish cream in your coffee etc... They gave us hugs when we left yesterday. Bar/entertainment staff-Love what they do and it shows. Very energetic-Work hard to make your stay enjoyable.
younger kids activities under 12-2 out of 5-small kids club. Were not able to drop them off for any periods of time.Would have liked to have kids club/daycare where you could drop kids off around dinner time for an hour or two for a nice dinner. The beach and pools kept them busy though
Notes- Bring alot of $1.00 bills and $5.00 bills. TIP...TIP...TIP...as this is their income to feed their families....They do not have alot of change for you at the service counter as they do not keep much change available. It was almost impossible to get change from anyone. WIFI-horrible. I have a 4G verizon phone and had to pay $25 extra for enhanced wifi as their router is bad and I could not download email. If want good seats close to beach and under cover reserve at 7:30 AM. I know it is roud to do but every one does it and if you do not it is hard to get chairs.
summary-Well appointed for the $. If you are expecting the 4 Seasons go to the 4 Seasons...Would I go back. Yes.
regards, The Hondru's
Room Tip: Block 8 or 9 is in front of pools and closer to beach...
