This is our 20th visit to Fun Royale/Tropical. Loved every minute of it! We met many old friends there.! They too love to vacation here. The resort is a great place to relax, at this time of the year it is very quite. We prefer it that way! The staff are really great and go out of their way to make your stay fun and as well comfortable. It is a great place to bring your family if you are on a buget. If you are looking for something like the Ritz Hotel then this is not the place for you. Many people think that the resort should be closed down because they compain about the littlest things. If you only see how the way the Dominicans try to survive, you would appreciate being here. They are hard working and have hearts of gold.
We have not ever gotten sick from eating the food or drinking the water at this resort as they claim on that awful report from the BBC program . We think that nwas all a conspiracy against the resort. The television show was all a bunch of lies to degrade the resort! But this resorts prevails while other resorts on the playa dorada complex have closed down. They are making upgrades to the resort like having a VIP pool and beach area. We would go back in a heart beat!!!

Having just returned from the Fun Tropicale, Royale in Puerto Plata Dominican republic, I thought it really was worth taking the time to write a review on this hotel.

Like many people, I have read some reviews, and seen programs on tv which where not favorable. Thus, prior to taking our children to this hotel, i wrote to them and expressed my concerns.

The hotel was very quick to reply, and satisfied me and my partner that it was really worth giving them a chance.

When we arrived at the resort Playa Dorada, one of the first things we noticed was that every hotel on the golf course was quiet, and a few of the other hotels had even closed down. Thus, it was reasuring to find that the Fun Royal Tropical is surviving a diffucult time.

We was greated at the hotel by very friendly staff, and was taken to our room.

Wow.

I have stayed at this hotel before a few years ago, and thus was so pleased to find that our rooms had been renovated, and that the hotel was in the process of renovating the remainder of the rooms.

For a family of 4, we was given ajoining rooms, and thus had 2 double beds, 2 double bed sofa's, 2 bathrooms ext ext. The rooms where really nice, and everything was nice.

Next came the food.

The first meal ( and in fact most of our meals) was A la Carte.

The food was really nice, however, our 7 year old girl did not really take to A La Carte. But, the hotel took this situation in hand, and was happy to cook our child whatever she wanted (within reason of course) and they took the time to make her feel special.

Thus, it is fair to say that the food was of a very high standard. Even when there was buffee meels (such as in the morning) the food was really nice,,, Every thing except the sausage..!

Needless to say, the restaurants where really clean, and the staff where fantastic, and went out of there way to make guests feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I even cought the staff putting the sauce onto a clients breakfast for them one morning.

Recreational areas.

The pool was really clean, and both our children really enjoyed it. They even tried the quiet childrens pool, which again was really clean.

The animation team was fantastic, and did a great job of keeping every one entertained. Needless to say that there was tears from our little girls when we had to leave at the end of the holiday, as the animation made such a great effort to take care of them.

Beach area.

The beach was really clean, and the beach club was really nice. They provided drinks and snacks for most of the day, however on some days, there was only snacks such as hot dogs, burgers and salad available to eat, and thus we had to return to the hotel some times for food. Needless to say however, that the staff and the atmosphere on the beach was great and really enjoyed by all.


Overall, I would recomend this hotel if you are looking for excellent value for money, and you like to have a good time.

Both myself, my partner and our girls aged 7 and 11 are all looking forward to going back to this hotel for another holiday soon.

Me an My Sister have just returned from this resort and had so much fun. The rooms are basic but its not for all the time you are in them. Rooms are in the process of being re-decorated. Restaurants are open one at a time due to low occupancy in the hotel which is understandable. The food & drinks are very nice in the restaurant/bars. The weekends are an experience when the locals visit - but if you make someone aware of any problems you have while here I know they will be resolved there and then. ALL the Staff are welcoming and very friendly and work hard to make your holiday enjoyable/special.

This hotel is also referred to as the Fun Tropicale (same place).Two of my friends and I stayed at this hotel over the past few days. Nothing is as advertised. The place is filthy; the staff is not helpful and has an excuse for why everything is not in functioning order. We arrived on a Saturday and the resort had been opened up to the local community for a holiday celebration. We endured two days of loud noise and chaos--so much for a quiet start to what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation. Nothing in our room was as advertised. We were charged $40 for utilities (since when do you get charged for utilities at a hotel!). The beds, if you can call them that, were mattresses on top of a board and a futon in the common area that might as well have been a deck chair at the pool. The rooms were dirty and the decor looked like it had not been updated in 30 years. One of our toilets was not functioning properly and the last two days we were there we had no hot water. We found out that only one of the dining rooms would be open on each day and they would tell us that morning which one it would be. The hygiene standards in the dining room were also questionable. The three swimming pools were all dirty, one remained a consistent color of green the entire time we were there. The fitness room doesn't exist, unless of course you call a broken stepper and a shelf with some free weights a fitness room. We were constantly hounded by individuals who were trying to sell us timeshares. I could continue on with the list of things wrong with this place, but they are endless. Suffice it to say, I would never go back and frankly this place needs to be shut down.
