“I love this little hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

I have stayed at the Beaterio at least 5 times over the past two years. Each time has been excellent. This is truly my home away from home in Santo Domingo. A hidden gem. The hotel is convenient to El Conde and is right on Parque Duarte. There's a little bodega right next door.

The service at the hotel is outstanding. The complimentary breakfast: fresh juice, coffee, toast, homemade marmelade, and fresh fruit is outstanding. I could site in the main salon and read all day and listen to the sounds of the street. The upstairs patio is a great place to watch the sun set over Parque Duarte and have a drink. The hotel is full of little nooks and cranies that are just lovely to sit.

The rooms are terrific. It's like going back in time. Which is to probably say that the TVs and A/C could use some updating. This hotel is French owned and the staff speaks both French/Creole and Spanish. The price is terrific for the value. The hotel is safe and secure. I will be back again and again.

“An architectural dream”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

This restored convent is loaded with architectural interest, colonial charm and interesting antiquities. The rooms are spacious and adequately furnished. If visiting the colonial zone is your desire - it was certainly ours - this is a great location to wander the area. The staff are cordial; breakfast is adequate and the place is very clean.

Room Tip: If you have heavy bags, ask for a main floor room. Taxis from the airport cost US$40.

We loved the atmosphere, charm, and history of this place--it's 500 years old. Very centrally located in Zona Colonial. Decent breakfast too.

“Cosy and quiet.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

The location was not bad, with a shop next door where you can grab necessities like water, toothbrush, etc. The host was friendly and helpful. The rooms were cozy (stayed in room 7) and during the day and night, it's really quiet. The living room is beautiful decorated as well. I like the fact that it's walking distance to the main colonial attractions but, during the night, it's advisable to take a taxi back. From Atarzana, it's around USD$6 to get back to El Beaterio.

Room Tip: Chose rooms on the second level from 7 onwards but not 11.

very pretty old convent turned into a hotel. Staff was great. Very helpful. Rooms were neat. Courtyard was very pretty. Location is close to sites. Breakfast was small but adequate. Beds were comfortable. Very pretty and redone very well. Probably not the place for everyone but if you love old places with a lot of history you will love it.
