“Very Good Hotel, Excellent Service, Location - Executive Club a Must”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We recently stayed for 5 nights and really enjoyed our stay. We did not book the executive club, but they kindly upgraded us to it after seeing a room on the 3rd floor. The difference in money is definitely worth the Club, I think it's about 20 dollars per day. Every guest receives a free breakfast buffet - and it's amazing. But the Executive floors also get snacks (a selection of breads, meats, cheeses, salads, etc.) twice a day, premium service, and much nicer rooms. Also, it's not as noisy from the events they host in the lobby level function areas or the garden tent. It is true that garden tent parties can be noisy. There was one while I was there it took a little while for me to fall asleep. We had a great view of the city and the ocean from our room and I loved sitting out on the balcony in the afternoons. Overall, the rooms are very large and clean. Not the newest, but very comfortable.

The common areas are amazing. The pool area is incredibly relaxing and clean. The gym is brand new and one of the best hotel gyms I've seen in a while. They also have a tennis court, and raquets and balls for you to borrow (all free). We spent a considerable amount of time using these amenities and they really make the difference, in my opinion, from other hotels in the city. For example, the Intercontinental has smaller but nicer rooms, but you cannot even compare their paltry pool and gym (no tennis) to the Embajador. The common areas will keep me coming back.

The location is also excellent, so it's a win-win all the way around. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Pay for the Executive Club and ask for a room with a view of the ocean.

“Very friendly staff, covenient location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I have stayed at the Hotel Embajador a couple of times and always look forward to returning.
The service and food is excellent.

I will definitely also recommend their sister hotel in Punta Cana; the Occidental Grand....you would not want to leave......

“What a stay! Spectacularly good!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Some friends and I went to visit another friend of ours that just moved to Santiago, and we decided to spend 5 days in Santo Domingo for New Year. It was amazing!!! It was not my first time in the DR, but I never been to such a nice city hotel! The classic yet very fresh look of the hotel, the very helpful staff, the amazing breakfasts, and of course the beautiful gardens made our stay very enjoyable. The smiling staff helped us a lot with all kind of info from must-see places in the city to night clubs! The food was excellent! The rooms were very spacious and clean, the closet very neat and have a very big balcony which was perfect for my smoker friend. The only thing is that room didn't have a flat screen TV, whereas our other friend's room was updated . We asked at the reception why our room didn't have one, and he was very accomodating; he apologized for the inconvenience, moved us to another room that had one and told us that all rooms were having the TV's changed by the 31st of January. We enjoyed one day at the pool and spa and it was incredible!!! the gardens give a nice touch of nature in the concrete of the city. All I know is that I m sad to be back, and that I m definitely going back to this hotel!

“MZ went for 5 days and stayed 9”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I selected this Hotel El Embajador because it was near everywhere in Santo Domingo. I was planning to stay 4-5 days and extended to 9 why? very simple, great hotel, very clean and nice rooms , good people and excellent service, excellent food, good wireless included, nice bars, excellent business center and service. I liked very much the room service and specially the rooms with the balcony with a nice view. I enjoyed the spa and the restaurants too ,they were excellent.
Something to add is the tide security at the hotel and sorroundings, they have security everywhere and very polite people. The guys ate the front desk are very corteous people and bilingual, nice fellows.

Room Tip: look for the 5th floor, executive floor, great rates it is worthy, great treats & coffee all d...

“don't believe the hype”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

they must have hired help with the online reviews. the hotel is outdated, frayed, and has a nasty habit of booking 3-4 day weekends in their party tent which is guaranteed to keep anyone up who has a habit of going to bed before 3 AM. Most of the staff is very friendly and tries to help, but of course, only to their ability. the rest is decent, just don't purchase overpriced meals, drinks, and enjoy the spectacular pool, comfortable if outdated room, and pleasant neighborhood.

Room Tip: ask them for a street side room. though overall noisier than the pool side, at night when their par...

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience as we value guest feedback. We are very sorry to hear about your experience at Occidental El Embajador.

For more than 56 years, Occidental El Embajador has been an iconic hotel in the city of Santo Domingo, and we strive to keep our classic look. I understand however that the hotel did not suit your lifestyle. As one of the most recognized hotels in the capital, social and commercial events are much requested, and we are working on improving guests’ sleep quality by soundproofing the Garden Tent within the next months.

We appreciate that you liked our pool and green areas. As per the outdated rooms of which you recognized the comfort, we are upgrading them and making major changes: televisions are being switched to 42” flat screen plasmas, curtains are being replaced by more modern looking ones, and all beds comforters are being replaced for a more enjoyable stay. Also, all internet cable connections in the rooms are currently being altered to Wi-Fi for easier access to the web.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Aurora Sagredo.
