After carefully reading other reviews I had some minor concerns. They were unwarranted. I have never received better service anywhere in RD. My room on the first floor was clean, modern and spacious without relying on technological gadgets that can take hours to fully understand. The free pool table and equipment was top notch. They even had 2 part cues!!! There is no better location from which to begin your exploration of the Colonial Zone. While I attempted to practice my Spanish, the staff was equally fluent in English. I hope that this review does not cause the price to go up before I return.
I was here for 3 nights in December 2011. What a great place! Quiet, beautiful and steeped in history in the hotel and outside nearby in the zona colonial. There is not a better local in the city in my humble opinion.
This place has class and elegance that is sometimes hard to find in the DR and yet is not stuff and the staff are friendly. This is a quiet hotel and while they can accommodate lots of requests its not the place for young kids or partying. If you there to see some history, have some great food and relax it would be tough to find a better place. It's not near a beach and the pool is tranquil so if you're looking for a resort setting you won't get it here. But it makes up for it in history and ambiance. It feels like you're in 16th century Spain at times. It's a bit pricey on food and drink but I'd say it's worth it and it's within five minute walk of 25-50 other restaurants for variety and better pricing.
Very safe setting with all the amenities. My bed was great and the bathroom was excellent. My wife and I, and my parents thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate to recommend it for the history traveler, romantic especially but also business and relax type of travel. WELL DONE!! Hasta pronto si El Senoir quiere.
We stayed only one night, but it was definitely worth it. One of the nicest Hotels in Santo Domingo and in a beautiful area.
Room service was poor, food was cold and not worth the money.
But the breakfast was awesome.
Hotel building is in colonial style and very romantic. But keep in mind, that due to the style (thick walls etc.) it is very dark in the rooms. Take a look at my pictures and make sure to have your stopover in Santo domingo at Nicolas de Avando.
