We stayed only one night, but it was definitely worth it. One of the nicest Hotels in Santo Domingo and in a beautiful area.

Room service was poor, food was cold and not worth the money.

But the breakfast was awesome.

Hotel building is in colonial style and very romantic. But keep in mind, that due to the style (thick walls etc.) it is very dark in the rooms. Take a look at my pictures and make sure to have your stopover in Santo domingo at Nicolas de Avando.

By far the best hotel in Santo Domino, Nicolas Ovanado is located in the heart of the Colonial District and walking distance from some of the best dinning options and Historic sight seeing. Getting around is easy, however the taxis are for the most part dirty, not well maintained and cab fares inconstant by driver. Be cautious of being taken advantage of if not from the area.
The hotel itself is beautiful and very well maintained. The rooms are reasonably priced, unless upgrade to a suite or Jr suite that are quite expensive even for DR standards. The staff is extremely professional and personable. Enjoy the breakfast buffet in one of the beautiful court yards or read of book pool side. Nicolas Ovanado is the only hotel I will stay at upon future returns to Santo Domingo.

I'm at the Hotel Nicolas right now in a junior suite and couldn't be happier. The hotel grounds are lovely, the suite we're in is huge and very comfortable, and the hotel is in a great location. Everything is modern and very clean. They have a gym with a pretty good elliptical machine and treadmill, and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I'm pretty high maintenance and they've been treating me extremely well. By way of comparison, I typically stay in hotels like the W and Four Seasons in the U.S., which I'm almost always happy with.

I highly recommend staying here!
