After a great time in June and noticing that the hotel management replied positively to my comment, I went again to this relaxing spot. An unfortunate problem with the airline made me check in late in the night when all the best rooms were already occupied and the room I stayed was alright for a 1-2 nights, but not for a long vacation, however, the hotel staff moved me in a very nice room next day. The internet was down in the first night, but in the morning the IT guy was there and even provided a router for my room and thus I did not have any more problems for the rest of my stay. As the management promised, the breakfast was better than in my first visit and I enjoyed it every morning (remember that you can ask the lounge personnel to cook for you eggs any way you like). I was happy that housekeeping learned my routine and I was getting the service when I needed. The front desk agent and bellman in the evening I got to the hotel went beyond their duties to help me out with some needs, Thanks! I work for Hilton and I can stay free there, but if I return to DR I prefer this nice spot in the heart of the Colonial Zone, all depends if the rates will not go over the border, but so far it was acceptable.

This was my second visit to Hotel Palacio. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in the colonial zone. Every room is uniquely decorated in spanish-colonial style, as are the common areas. Courtyard is magical, especially at night. Walking distance to colonial zone attractions,grocery store and currency exchange. Rooftop pool is refreshing on a hot day. Security guard on duty at all times. I always felt safe and comfortable

Service was good, cant complain. I didn't like the fact that the guy that took our bags to the room also was security and had a gun on him. At least keep it hidden. Anyways...They give you two keys per room and the key must be left inserted into the AC thermostat for it to run. The breakfast was good but I'm pretty sure I caught Montezumas revenge from eating that damn yogurt!!. People were friendly and security was good. Hot at times though. The balcony and seating area was great to smoke cigarettes and kill time.

I stayed there a couple of nights for business.The hotel is well located in the center of the colonial zone.
There's a guard at the front door, which makes you feel very safe (although I didn't notice big safety concern inside the colonial zone).
They also have a great taxi company ("Nunez Taxi") parking just in front of the hotel, very convenient.
My room was very spacious and clean, with air conditioning. Although it was on street level, I wasn't bothered by any noise from the street.
On the other hand, I had a lot of trouble with my internet connection, which was an issue as I needed my emails. I would also mention food (I had breakfast and dinner there) is not great - a bit disappointing since this hotel is among the higher-priced ones in the area.
Apart from that, service was excellent, people were always helpful and smiling, that made my stay very pleasant.
I would recommend this hotel, hoping they could improve just this couple of things to make it
four stars -and ensure I would be back again.
