Iguana Inn is a small apartment hotel, run by a nice Dutch couple and located on the outskirts of Willemstad at Korporaal area.
We stayed 8 nights in a spacious one-bedroom (one double and one single bed) apartment. The living room furnishing included the usual kitchen appliances (fridge, freezer, gas cooker, sink, pots, cutlery etc.), a couch, tables and chairs.
The whole property was recently refurbished, well maintained and clean. Each apartment is located literally next to the small pool and sunbed area. Hans & Helen are willing to help their guests with all common travel issues, like how to find your way around the island or make tour/car bookings. We also used their airport transfers and WLAN service, no complains whatsoever - everything worked as planned.
Since the days in Curacao are hot & sweaty, one has to pay attention on how to stay cool and fresh. The tab water is almost luke warm, so there was hardly any need to use the boiler while taking a shower. Air conditioning was working only in the bedroom, the living room had a free standing fan. Luckily the tab water is clean and perfecly drinkable, just buy some water bottles on the first day, fill them up and cool in the freezer.
It's almost mandatory to rent a car with an A/C: by foot it takes 30 mins to the beach and an hour+ to Willemstad centre. Even if you could catch a local minibus on your way there, it may not be so easy get back to the Iguana Inn - most drivers did not have a clue where it is! The nearest supermarket is only some 500 meters away, though.
The price level in Curacao is relatively high, so I'd say that the Iguana Inn is an excellent choice for budget travelles. Unless you wish to stay by the beautiful Caribbean sea, of course...
